Tampa Bay Recognizes Salem as Minor League Player of the Month

Columbus, GA - Outfielder Emeel Salem was named the minor league player of the month for April by the Tampa Bay organization today. Former Catfish Jeremy Hellickson was also honored as the minor league pitcher of the month for April.

Emeel Salem, a 23 year old outfielder, hit .288 in his first taste of full-season baseball this April. Salem also stole a professional baseball high 21 stolen bases while only being caught 3 times.

Jeremy Hellickson, a 21 year old starting pitcher, is remembered fondly by Catfish fans after going 13-3 with a 2.67 ERA for the South Atlantic League Champions last year. Hellickson has continued to excel at Vero Beach this April, going 2-0 with a 0.93 ERA in 5 starts, striking out 41 while only walking 2 batters.

The Catfish finish their 4-game series at Augusta this Friday and Saturday. Columbus returns home on Monday, May 12th at 7:00 to open an eight game home stand against the Hickory Crawdads (Pirates) and the Augusta GreenJackets (Giants).
