
Port Huron Icehawks To Honor Former IHL Coach Ted Garvin

PORT HURON, Mich. - The Port Huron Icehawks and Pepsi are teaming up to present Pack The House- Ted Garvin Night on Wednesday, April 2 at 7 p.m. when the Icehawks take on the Bloomington PrairieThunder at McMorran Arena.
The Icehawks are calling on the public to help them pack the arena in honor of coaching legend and former Port Huron Flags/Port Huron Wings Coach Ted Garvin. During the game, the Icehawks will pay tribute to the coach and unveil a banner that will hang at McMorran Arena in his honor.
A native of Sarnia, Ontario, Garvin coached the Port Huron Flags/Port Huron Wings from 1968-1972 and also served as head coach of the NHL Detroit Red Wings for just 11 games in the 1973-74 season. He returned to the IHL as head coach of the Toledo Goaldiggers (1974-1979) and led the team to Turner Cup wins in both the 1974-75 and 1977-78 seasons. He also served as head coach of the IHL Muskegon Mohawks from 1980-81.
"The Icehawks are extremely proud to honor Ted Garvin," Icehawks Vice President and Business Manager Dave Goetze said. " Special thanks goes to lifetime Port Huron resident and hockey commentator Don Curtis for bringing this suggestion to the Icehawks. Our management and staff is very pleased to recognize the accomplishments of an IHL coaching legend."
