Arkansas RimRockers News Release

Little Rock, AR. In an exciting game with 19 lead changes, the Arkansas RimRockers prevailed over the visiting Bellevue Blackhawks in the ABA Championship Game, 118-103 before a crowd of 14,989 in Alltel Arena on Saturday night. The score was tied 9 times before the host RimRockers pulled away with a 27-16 edge in the third quarter. Bellevue, the 13th seeded team, had upset on its mind and led at halftime 51-49. The MVP of the game was Kareem Reid who scored 36 points, 9 assists and 5 rebounds who narrowly won the trophy over Todd Day who scored 32 points, 3 blocks, and six steals.

Tim Ellis of Bellevue had another outstanding game scoring 32 points while Justin Murray added 20. The Pit Bull ABA Championship Trophy was awarded by James Robinson of Pit Bull Energy Drink and Ricardo Richardson, ABA Executive Vice President, in post-game ceremonies. Richardson thanked the City of Little Rock, Otis Birdsong, Nigel Hall and the team owner, Larry Crain, for putting together an outstanding team and organization. Bellevue was awarded the Runner Up Trophy. Richardson stated, "This is a glimpse of what the ABA can be in every city. It was amazing seeing so many people walking through a heavy thunderstorm to get to an ABA game - and then for the teams to be able to put on such a great game - at such affordable prices."

Crain promised the capacity crowd a repeat next season during the award ceremonies. Both the Mayor of Little Rock and the Governor of Arkansas attended.

Richardson added, "In addition to the huge crowd and the exciting game, special recognition should be given to the staff and management of the RimRockers. Otis Birdsong, Nigel Hall and their people made the game presentation equal to the best you'll see at the NBA or NCAA level and they should be commended. This was truly the ABA at its best."
