Outlaws establish scouting department

(Kansas City, MO --- August 9, 2004) – Joe Bucchino, General Manager of the Kansas City Outlaws of the United Hockey League announced the new scouting department that will recruit from the best hockey regions in the United States and Canada. The team of scouts consisting of Don Callow (New England region), George Kozak (Eastern region), and Alf Thompson (Western Canada), will work with Bucchino to piece together the Kansas City Outlaws that take the ice at Kemper Arena on Friday, October 15 against the Missouri River Otters.

"In minor professional hockey, a scouting staff is essential to make an organization successful," said Joe Bucchino, Kansas City Outlaws General Manager. "Our talented scouting department of Callow, Kozak and Thompson will recruit players throughout the United States and Canada to bring an exciting, fast-paced, and successful brand of hockey to Kansas City."

Callow, responsible for recruiting in the New England region, has 20 years coaching experience in youth and junior hockey. Callow was Director of Player Personnel for the International Hockey League's (IHL) Atlanta Knights and Quebec Rafales and the East Coast Hockey League's (ECHL) Pensacola Ice Pilots, Birmingham Bulls, and Jacksonville Lizards. Callow also runs a professional/amateur summer hockey training camp in the New England area.

Kozak, Eastern Region scout, spent four seasons as the Assistant Coach/Director of Player Personnel for the Pensacola Ice Pilots of the ECHL prior to joining the Kansas City Outlaws. He has also coached the Nashville Knights of the ECHL and worked along side Callow for the ECHL franchises in Birmingham and Jacksonville.

Thompson, Western Canada scout for the Outlaws, brings 31 years of experience as a coach and a scout for numerous minor league hockey organizations. Thompson coached the Victoria Warriors of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) and the Alberni Valley Bulldogs (BCHL) and scouted for the BCHL and the Western Hockey League (WHL).

Kansas City Outlaws kick off the season on Friday, October 15 at Kemper Arena against the Missouri River Otters of St. Charles. Season tickets to the UHL franchise at Kemper Arena ranging from $10 to $13.50 per game are on sale now. For ticket information call (816) 513-4400. The Kansas City Outlaws officially joined the United Hockey League in July of 2004. Owner Stephen Franke of Chillicothe, MO brought the professional minor league expansion franchise to Kansas City, MO. The Kansas City Outlaws new home is Global Spectrum-managed Kemper Arena of the American Royal Complex.
