Warbirds to begin play in 2005

August 10, 2004 - National Indoor Football League (NIFL)
Dayton Bulldogs News Release

Dayton, OH - The Dayton Indoor Football Club, LLC held a press conference today at the Ervin J. Nutter Center to announce Professional Indoor Football is returning to Dayton, Ohio. The team name, Dayton Warbirds, was chosen because of Dayton's rich heritage in military aviation, said Jeffrey A. Jodway, Warbirds President.

Although all potential expansion teams are subject to league approval at the annual owner's meetings, representatives from the league were in attendance to show support. "Dayton is a great travel opponent for us" said John Blackmore, Ohio Valley GM and recently named NIFL Director of Football Operations. "Dayton makes for a natural rival for Ohio Valley, Lexington and Fort Wayne" added Blackmore. Rich Coffey, Managing Partner of the Fort Wayne Freedom was also in attendance. "The addition of Dayton makes our region that much stronger" added Coffey.

In addition to unveiling the team logo, the Warbirds also announced that season tickets will go on sale next Monday, August 16th.

The Warbirds will begin play in March of 2005. "Hopefully we can find enough talent to compete with the likes of Ohio Valley, Fort Wayne, and the defending NIFL Champion Horsemen" said Jodway. "It looks like we will be in a very tough division."
