BOUCHERVILLE, Wednesday, February 2, 2011 - The latest Quebec Major Junior Hockey League attendance report was unveiled today and statistics from last fall's semester reveal that 385 of the League's 394 North American players pursued their education at a High School, Cégep, College or University. The complete report for the 2010-11 campaign will be available at the beginning of next season, after the 2011 Winter semester.

The success rate for players attending Cégep has jumped significantly in the past few years. Of note, Alliance Sport-Études' statistics show that the success rate has risen to 82% with players taking an average of 3.55 classes per semester. Here is a brief overview of the success rates over the years:

Fall Semester

1985: 65%

1990: 70%

1995: 60%

2000: 75%

2005: 81%

2009: 82%

"The increases in success rates and course loads over the past few years clearly show that it is possible to consolidate school and hockey in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League," commented Natacha Llorens, the League's Educational Advisor and Players Help Program Coordinator. "Our league is a source of motivation for several players whom would not otherwise pursue their education if not for the opportunity to play hockey at this level. Our growing success in education would not be possible without the hard work of our academic consultants, our teams' dedication and support as well as the precious cooperation of our partners."

Alliance Sport-Études has played a key role. "While QMJHL student-athletes face a number of challenges success in academics is no longer an exception but the norm among the League's 18 teams. The motivation, the discipline and the efforts of the players combined with the support extended from their teachers, their school advisors and their teams' consultants can certainly explain the success witnessed these past years", mentioned Sebastien Fyfe, General Manager of Alliance Sport-Études.

Teams cover all school-related expenses during the player's career including tuitions fees, books and supplies. Following his QMJHL career, a player can benefit from the League's bursaries program with grants now reaching up to $20,000.
