Cleveland Gladiators News Release
The Cleveland Gladiators and CBS RADIO's 92.3 The Fan are pleased to announce that SPORTS RADIO 92.3 THE FAN (WKRK-FM) will be the Arena Football League team's official radio home for the third straight season in 2014. The games will air live on 92.3 The Fan and will stream live on www.923thefan.com, and Gladiator games will also be carried live on 1440 WHKZ-AM in Warren, Ohio. Also for the third straight season, Doug Plagens will serve as "The Voice of the Gladiators", while 92.3 THE FAN personality and former National Football League player Dustin Fox will again join Plagens in the booth for home games. The Gladiators season kicks off Saturday at 5:00 p.m. in Pittsburgh, and the home opener is set for Friday April 4th at 7:30 p.m.
"We're looking forward to another season of Cleveland Gladiators action on Sports Radio 92.3 The Fan," said Tom Herschel, VP/Market Manager for CBS RADIO CLEVELAND. "The intense hard-hitting games of the AFL fit perfectly into our lineup and we look forward to hearing Doug and Dustin calling the play-by-play."
"We are extremely excited to continue our relationship with The Fan. They do a great job of delivering football related stories, updates and content to our fans. We look forward to working with them again this season with the on-going goal of growing the Gladiators brand in Cleveland and Northeast Ohio," said Gladiators Chief Operating Officer Mike Ostrowski.
Every game broadcast will include pre- and post-game shows, and daily Gladiators reports will be heard each afternoon on 92.3 The Fan.
To celebrate The Fan and The Gladiators 2014 season partnership, for a limited time fans can purchase a ticket to the Gladiators Home Opener on Friday, April 4th, for ONLY $9.23! (a $29 value per seat). Tickets can be purchased at ClevelandGladiators.com, by calling (216) 420-2222 or at the Quicken Loans Arena Box Office (offer available until March 23rd at 11:59pm). This offer is brought to you by Sports Radio 92.3 The Fan.
In addition to calling Gladiators action, Plagens is in his third season as the radio and television play-by-play announcer for Cleveland's Lake Erie Monsters of the American Hockey League. Plagens, 28, is entering his third season in the Gladiators radio booth, and brings over 400 games of professional hockey broadcasting experience. He was the 2010 ECHL "Broadcaster of the Year" while with the Idaho Steelheads, holds a master's degree from Syracuse University and a bachelor's degree from Lake Forest College in Illinois. When conflicts with Plagens' Lake Erie Monsters broadcast duties arise, veteran sportscaster Tim Alcorn will return for his second season as substitute play-by-play announcer for Gladiators games.
Fox can be heard weekdays from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. as co-host of "Bull & Fox" on 92.3 THE FAN. Fox was a 2005 draft choice of the Philadelphia Eagles, and played in the NFL until 2008 after a standout collegiate career at Ohio State. The former Buckeyes cornerback was part of the 2002 National Championship squad.
The Cleveland Gladiators are part of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Quicken Loans Arena organization and also owned by a group led by Cavaliers Majority Owner and Quicken Loans Founder and Chairman Dan Gilbert. The group also owns and operates the Lake Erie Monsters of the American Hockey League playing at Quicken Loans Arena and the Canton Charge of the NBA Development League playing in nearby Canton, Ohio at the Canton Civic Center.
