7th Inning Rally Leads Great Falls Past Missoula Thursday

MISSOULA, MT- The Missoula PaddleHeads stayed within striking distance for much of Thursday night's game at Ogren Allegiance Field in a battle with the Great Falls Voyagers. But a 4-run 7th inning from Great Falls proved to be the difference as the visitors pulled away for a 9-2 victory in Game 3 of a 6-game series.

Great Falls entered the seventh holding a 3-2 advantage before putting together its biggest offensive inning of the night. 5 straight hits with 2 outs in the frame told the story en route to a 5-run lead. The Voyagers scored four times in the frame to create separation, turning a one-run game into a 7-2 contest. Great Falls added 2 more runs in the ninth to put the game out of reach clinching their 3rd straight win in this series.

The PaddleHeads had battled back from an early deficit to make it a one-run game. Great Falls scored twice in the 2nd thanks to a 2-run blast from Andrew Gauna. The left fielder finished 2-for-4 in his at-bats. Missoula answered with a run in the 3rd thanks to an RBI single from Bryce Cerminelli to get on the board.

The PaddleHeads added another run in the 6th with an RBI groundout making the score 3-2.

The 7th inning rally from Great Falls turned the momentum to the 1st base dugout soon after this sequence allowing the Voyagers to gain control.

Great Falls finished the night with 15 hits, led by Ethan Ott, who went 3-for-4 with 3 RBI and a run scored. Tommy Specht added 2 hits, including a triple, while driving in two runs. Blake Wilhoite also finished 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored.

Missoula collected 10 hits against the Great Falls pitching staff but was held to just 2 runs.

Michael Koszewski finished 2-for-4 with a run scored, while Enzo Apodaca went 2-for-3 with a double and a walk. Ty Yukumoto also recorded 2 hits. Cermenelli and Daniel Tauken each drove in a run for the PaddleHeads.

Starting pitching on both sides played a role in keeping the game close leading to the 7th.

Brendan Beard kept Missoula within striking distance through 5 '..." innings, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits while striking out 8. Daniel Hutchinson got the win in his first professional start for the Voyagers allowing 1 earned run and 8 hits over 6 innings. After 3 straight losses, Missoula will now look to turn things around over the weekend.

The PaddleHeads (42-32) head into game 4 of this 6 game set with the Voyagers (30-45) on Friday night at Allegiance Field. First pitch of the ballgame is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
