7 Run 7th Gives M's Their Fifth Straight Win

Pulaski, VA- The Mariners completed the sweep of the Kingsport Mets Monday night at Calfee Park. Pulaski erased a 0-6 deficit by scoring seven runs in the seventh inning keeping their five game win streak alive.
The Mariners defense was everything but flawless at the start of the game. Committing three errors within the first two innings that Kingsport was able to capitalize on, giving them the early lead.
Only adding to the Mariners struggles, Kingsport's bats were on fire. In the top of the sixth, Mets Jeickol De Leon, Maikis De La Cruz and Jon Leroux hit back-to-back-to-back jacks giving them the 6 to 0 lead.
Mets starter Stephen Matz pieced together a great start going six innings, striking out six, walking two, and giving up only a single hit. With a six run cushion, RHP Corey Oswalt took over in the bottom of the 7th for Kingsport.
To the apprehension of the Mets dugout, Oswalt proceeded to give up four straight hits to start the inning giving up the shutout. Unfortunately for the 18-year-old right-hander from California, the damage did not stop there. With no outs and two runners on, Felipe Burin capped off an eleven pitch at bat by ripping a 2RBI double into right center bringing the M's within three. Oswalt managed to get Franklin Diaz to ground into a fielder's choice for the first out of the inning. James Zamarripa then stepped up to the plate with runners on first and third. Zamarripa hit a towering fly ball to right field that should have been a routine catch for Mets RF Maikis De La Cruz but he lost it in the night sky resulting in another Pulaski run, yet again, the damage did not stop there. Next batter Martin Peguero drew a walk, loading the bases for three hitter Jordy Lara. Lara did not disappoint, he crushed a game tying double picking up his 4th and 5th RBI's of the season. Now with first base open, Mets coaching staff decided to intentionally walk Reggie Lawson (2-2 2B) to load the bases yet again. Their move backfired as LHP Shane Bay walked Gilmer Lampe giving Pulaski the lead 7 to 6, proving to be the game winning run.
Min-Sih Chen got his second win by pitching a great seventh and eighth giving up only two hits and striking out three. David Holman took over in the top of the ninth for the Mariners where he would sit down Kingsport's three, four, and five hitters in order, collecting his team high, third save of the year.
After the great come from behind win, Pulaski gets an off day tomorrow and will begin play again Wednesday, 7pm, against the Bluefield Blue Jays at Calfee Park.
