67's' Tyler Toffoli Named OHL Player of the Week
March 21, 2011 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL) News Release
Toronto, ON - The Ontario Hockey League today announced that forward and co-recipient of the OHL's Top Scorer Award Tyler Toffoli of the Ottawa 67's is the OHL Player of the Week for the third time this season. Toffoli finished the 2010-11 regular season with five goals and two assists for seven points in two games with a plus-minus rating of plus-5 for the week ending March 20.
Toffoli's efforts helped lead the 67's to their second straight East Division title with a clinching win over the Oshawa Generals on Friday night. He scored once and setup the game-winner as second star of the 4-3 win. Toffoli then entered the final day of the regular season three points behind Jason Akeson of the Kitchener Rangers for first place in the OHL scoring race. He exploded for five points matching a season-high netting four goals including a natural hat-trick plus an assist as first star of a 7-3 win over the Sudbury Wolves.
Toffoli, an 18-year-old from Scarborough, ON, finished the season with a league-high 57 goals plus 51 assists for 108 points to share the Eddie Powers Memorial Trophy and the Jim Mahon Memorial Trophy with Akeson as the league's Top Scorer and Top Scoring Right Winger. Toffoli was selected by the Los Angeles Kings in the second round of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.
Michael Sgarbossa of the Sudbury Wolves was also considered after leading the OHL with nine points in three games including four goals and five assists. Nail Yakupov of the Sarnia Sting capped off an impressive rookie campaign with two goals and six assists for eight points in three games to finish fourth in league scoring with 101 points in 65 games. In goal, Mikael Audette of the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors won two games including a shutout victory with a goals-against-average of 0.50 and save percentage of .981.
