6'11" Traore Signs with Hotshots
March 5, 2006 - International Basketball League (IBL)
West Coast Hotshots News Release
Central Oregon Hotshots head coach, JJ Anderson announced the signing of 6'11", 250 lb. Abraham Traore of the Guinea Republic in Africa. The Lubumbashi-born (Congo Republic) Traore played unorganized basketball in the Togo Republic as a teenager before prepping at Redemption Christian Academy in Troy, New York.
In 1999, Traore was awarded a full scholarship to NCAA I, North Carolina A&T, where he was named most improved player and went on to become the team's captain Co-Captain his Junior and Senior years. Traore offers many facets that Anderson is excited to integrate into the Hotshots this season.
"Abraham is wonderfully athletic and moves very well for a big man," noted Anderson. "He has played at the highest levels of college ball in a conference that is fast-paced and where he has pressed a lot. Defensively, he's exhibited the skills and work-ethic that you try to instill in kids from a young age. He's a player who has, and continues to be willing to be the blue collar player - rebounding and defending; but he's very excited to come here so we can help build his offensive skills and where he can be in a system that will utilize the great athleticism and skills he already possesses. I really believe that with some ongoing development, Abraham will have an opportunity at the highest level in professional basketball"
Currently, Traore is competing in England for the Nottingham Knights (EBL) and had contributed consecutive double-doubles in his last contests.
"Abraham embodies the type of player that we want to be in our organization - He has the skills, the work ethic, and the desire to learn and is he is a very respectful young man. I think his teammates and the fans will really embrace him."
The majority of the players will be arriving to Bend on March 7th, leaving just 10 days to prepare for their opening weekend on March 17th and 18th. The season runs through the end of May and season tickets are available by calling 541-221-3157 or by visiting the team's website, www.hotshotsfan.com
