5 Run Sixth Just Enough for Braves, Defeat M's 7-8

Pulaski Mariners News Release
Pulaski, VA- The Danville Braves sixth inning proved to be enough to surpass Pulaski as they scored five runs on four hits, two walks, two errors, and a sacrifice fly. The Danville victory gives the Braves a two game lead over the Princeton Rays for the second playoff spot in the East Division with fourteen games left.
Trailing 6-8 heading into the eighth inning, the Mariners managed to load the bases with one out. To the apprehension of the Danville bench, Braves 20-year-old RHP Shae Simmons, walked in the Mariner's seventh run on five pitches. However, the M's failed to take further advantage of the bases loaded situation as Pizzano and Henry uncharacteristically struck out, ending the opportunity. Mariners closer Levi Dean did his best to give his offense a chance to tie it up in the bottom as he shut down the Braves bats in the top of the ninth. Unfortunately, Simmons undermined his performance by striking out the side in the bottom, sealing the game.
On the upside for the M's, Dario Pizzano (3-5, 2B, 3R, RBI) and Jordy Lara (3-4, 2 2B, BB, 3RBI) both had three-hit nights along with Jabari Henry's 2-5 3RBI performance.
The Mariners will take on the Braves for the last game of a three game home stand tomorrow, 7 p.m., at Historic Calfee Park.
WP: W. Perez (4-1) LP: Garcia (3-4) S: Simmons (2)
