Louisville City FC News Release

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - With the effects of Louisville City FC's penalty-kick shootout victory over Detroit City FC still lingering, the U.S. Soccer Federation conducted and unveiled the potential pairings for the fourth round of the 2016 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup - the round that sees Major League Soccer sides enter the competition. LouCity visits NASL-side Indy Eleven on June 1 for a third-round rematch, with the winner advancing to face Chicago Fire on June 15.

"The Open Cup is something we'd love to have a run in," Louisville City FC coach James O'Connor said. "But in order to have a run in it you have to work hard and make sure you have your homework done. Hopefully we'll do that, but let's not dismiss (any of the matches we have in front of us, starting with Indy Eleven)."

LouCity, if it advances, would host the MLS side that eliminated it from the 2015 Open Cup at Wendell & Vickie Bell Soccer Complex on the campus of the University of Kentucky with a special 7 p.m. kickoff. Chicago Fire would be just the second MLS team to compete in the state of Kentucky and the first ever to face Louisville City in Lexington, Ky.

"We couldn't be more excited to face the possibility of hosting Chicago Fire in Lexington," Louisville City FC president Amanda Duffy said. "Obviously Lexington is not in Louisville, but the University of Kentucky and Louisville City have always shared a great relationship and we're thankful that the University of Kentucky is welcoming us, our supporters and this great and historical American competition to its campus and into a new market in the state of Kentucky.

"A lot of dynamics play a role in selecting a venue to compete in: the Louisville Bats play at home on June 15 and will obviously be at Slugger Field, and other venues in Louisville were not willing or able to make themselves available to Louisville City while also meeting the minimum standards that the U.S. Soccer Federation has in place."

Ticket information for the 3,650-capacity venue will be released pending the third-round fixture between LouCity and Indy Eleven.

In 2015, Louisville City pushed Chicago to extra time before falling via a deflected goal in the 1-0 loss. In another Open Cup rematch, LouCity visits Indy Eleven on June 1 in Indianapolis, a team and site that produced a 2-0 win for Louisville in 2015.

Louisville City (6-1-2, 20 points) will continue USL play on May 21 at Richmond Kickers to initiate a three-match road stint before returning to Slugger Field on June 11 to host Wilmington Hammerheads (7:30 p.m.).
