37 PGCBL Alumni Selected in 2019 MLB Draft

The 2019 Major League Baseball Draft saw 37 alumni of the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League selected in the 40-round process. The 37 draft picks included representatives of seven PGCBL franchises, and saw 23 of the 30 teams in Major League Baseball select at least one player that spent time with a PGCBL team, a total that marks an increase from the 19 a season ago.
The Amsterdam Mohawks had a record draft, as 21 former Mohawks found a home in professional baseball. This group was led by Indiana Hoosier Matt Gorski, who was selected in the second round by the Pittsburgh Pirates. Of the 21 players selected from Amsterdam, eleven were on the roster in 2017. Including the selection of John Valente in last year's draft, 12 members of Amsterdam's 2017 team have been drafted.
Following the Mohawks were the Albany Dutchmen, who accounted for five selections, including current Dutchmen signee Parker Noland, who went in the 31st round to the Marlins. The Elmira Pioneers and Utica Blue Sox both recorded four selections, while the Adirondack Trail Blazers, Newark Pilots, and Oneonta Outlaws each had one. Adirondack's selection was current roster member Montana Semmel.
Four Major League Baseball franchises - the Pittsburgh Pirates, Baltimore Orioles, Arizona Diamondbacks, and Toronto Blue Jays - each selected three PGCBL alumni to their organizations. The most represented schools among the PGCBL alumni were Mississippi State and Indiana, both of which sent four alumni to the PGCBL en route to professional baseball.
The PGCBL also wishes to recognize former Amsterdam Mohawks Thomas Lane (Boston College) and Tristen Carranza (New Mexico State), who signed free agent contracts with the Cincinnati Reds and Arizona Diamondbacks, respectively.
