Brookings Blizzard News Release
The Brookings Blizzard recently teamed up with Camelot Intermediate School to organize a food drive to gather items for the Brookings County Food Pantry. During the week of November 12th, the team challenged the school's fourth and fifth graders to see which class could gather the most items. At the end of the week the food was counted and Tyler Bolstad's fifth grade class was rewarded for collecting the most, over 350 items. The class was rewarded for their efforts with a pizza party with the Blizzard players and coaches. The team visited the school over the lunch hour on Tuesday the 20th and hung out with the students during their lunch hour recess. The players then joined Mr. Bolstad's class for pizza and autographs.
After the pizza party, the Blizzard team members gathered all of the items from the school and delivered them to the Brookings County Food Pantry at 217 4th St. in Brookings.
Coach Chris Olson and the team also provided each student in Mr. Bolstad's class with a free ticket to the Blizzard game against Austin the following night. The class was recognized over the PA system and on the video screen for winning the competition.
Beyond this effort, the Blizzard organization also hosted a food drive at their pre-Thanksgiving game on Wednesday, November 21st. Fans who brought a non-perishable food item to the game received two dollars off their ticket price.
Overall, the team was able to collect over 3,500 items for the Brookings County Food Pantry. The Blizzard have planned a number of other philanthropy nights this season to support local service groups and organizations.
The team would like to extend a huge thanks to all of the students and faculty at Camelot Intermediate School as well as all of the fans that participated in the food drive.
