SAN JOSE (January 6, 2003) – Three San Jose CyberRays players have been called to U.S. Women's National Team training camp this week to prepare for international matches in San Diego and China. These are the first national team games of approximately a dozen in 2003, which will conclude in the fall with the FIFA Women's World Cup in China.

Goalkeeper LaKeysia Beene, defender Thori Bryan and defender Brandi Chastain are among 26 players who have been summoned to camp Thursday in San Diego by national coach April Heinrichs in an attempt to make U.S. rosters for two January events.

Players will first attempt to make the roster for the 1 p.m. Sunday match against Japan in Torero Stadium, home of the WUSA San Diego Spirit. It will be televised live on ESPN. Following that game, the players will train three additional days to make the roster for the Four Nations Tournament beginning Jan. 23 against Germany, Norway and the host Chinese.

Beene, Bryan and Chastain all are national team veterans. Bryan played in the 1995 World Cup in Sweden and was an alternate for the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. Chastain played in the 1991 World Cup in China, the 1999 World Cup in the United States and in the Olympic Games of 1996 in Atlanta and 2000 in Sydney, Australia. Beene was first called to the national team in 2000 and has earned 13 caps.

The CyberRays will open preseason training March 1 and open their 2003 season at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 5 against the Philadelphia Charge in Spartan Stadium. Season tickets are on sale now at CyberRays Tower, 1991 Park Ave., in San Jose or online at http://www..sjcyberrays.com/tickets/tix_seasontix.html.
