Austin Turfcats News Release
AUSTIN, Texas - Just one week after the first match-up the Turfcats (4-1) and Pirates (1-3) will go at it again. This time the game will take place on the Pirates' home turf in Houston.
Although the Turfcats won the first game of the series, this week's game against the Pirates holds a whole new set of challenges. This is the first time since the second week of the season that the Turfcats will play a road game. They won their last road game against the Houma Conquerors on April 26.
Not only is this the first time in five weeks that the Turfcats are playing a road game, but they are playing the same team in back-to-back weeks. "You don't have a lot of variety and when you beat them, you have a little feeling like you're better than them so we're going to have to go to work," Turfcats head coach Chris Duliban said about facing the Pirates again this week.
The last meeting ended in the Turfcats favor with a final score of 20-38. During the first half, Darren Brown kicked a field goal, Darrick Wallace caught a 21-yard touchdown pass from Deron Ellis, and Corry Perez ran a blocked field goal in giving the Turfcats 16 points. The Pirates got on the board with a Trumaine Dorsey to Chris Miller 7-yard touchdown pass ending the half with a 7-16 score.
The second half opened with Dorsey scoring on a 7-yard run on the Pirates opening drive. The Turfcats then scored on their next three possessions. First Nick Lewis, in his first game of the season, caught a 7-yard touchdown pass from Ellis. Then JR Turner ended the Pirates drive with an interception which led to a Robert Quiroga 5-yard rushing touchdown. On the next possession Brown kicked his second field goal of the night.
The Pirates scored next with a Dorsey to Kenyatta Tatum 32-yard touchdown pass but they failed to complete the 2-point conversion. Shon Mitchell had the last score of the night with a 42-yard rushing touchdown. Brown was not given the opportunity to attempt the point after as the Pirates team conceded the game with 43 seconds remaining by leaving the field. This ended the game with a final score of 20-38.
"I think the way the game ended tonight gives us a little bit of reason to go to work and get after them at their place," said Duliban.
This week's game will take place on May 30 at Kicks Indoor Sports Complex located 611 Shepherd Drive in Houston. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. Fans can get their tickets at the box office on game day.
