Orange County Flyers News Release

Well, we are just 27 days from OPENING NIGHT at Goodwin Field, and the first ever HOME game for the Orange County Flyers! We have a lot of fun activities planned, and it promises to be a VERY memorable evening.

Below are just a few of the things that are going on...

FLYERS OFFER CONTRACT TO, THEN LOSE, COGGIN

Former Major League pitcher Dave Coggin received his Orange County Flyers contract on Monday, and had every intention of signing it. Coggin was projected to be the Opening Night starting pitcher on June 7 in Yuma, AZ. Then things changed.

After throwing a bullpen for Florida Marlins' scouts on Monday, Coggin's phone rang again. This time, it was the Marlins who were calling. He signed later Monday with the Marlins, and after a week in Florida throwing to live hitters in extended Spring Training, Coggin will report to either the Marlins AA or AAA club.

"I was very excited to be playing for the Flyers", stated Coggin, who had put on the Flyers jersey on Saturday at the team's Fan Fest, where he signed autographs, posed for pictures, and met his fellow teammates. "Then the Marlins invited me to join their organization. That is the opportunity that I was hoping to get after pitching for a month, or so, with the Flyers."

Coggin attributes the hard work he put in getting ready for the Flyers season as the reason he was ready to pitch, and was impressive, in front of the Marlins scouts.

"We are happy for Dave, and know he will see a lot of success in the Marlins organization", said Flyers Manager Garry Templeton. "He would have been a key member of our rotation, and we were excited to have him, but this is why people play in the GBL to begin with."

ROSTER SET

The Flyers announced today that their 25 man Spring Training roster is set, and that they have also invited 10 other players to participate in Spring Training, which begins in Fullerton (Fullerton Community College) on Tuesday, May 29. Leading the roster are 2006 Flyers Peanut Williams, Rich Pohle, Garry Templeton 2, Buddy Morales, Bret Levier, Joe Frazee, Nick Casanova, Jon Grijalva, Reed Dickert, and Gabe Mayorga. Crowd favorite "Moto' (Motoyuki Yamanaka) has also been invited to tryout for the team in Spring Training.

Another notable player coming to Spring Training is outfielder Julio Guerrero, the younger brother of Los Angeles Angels star Vladimir Guerrero. Julio will room with Vlad while playing for the Flyers. Host Families for Flyers players receive two free season tickets, so the Flyers front office will be adding Vladimir Guerrero to their list of 2007 Season Seat Holders.

Several players with AA or AAA experience will also be joining the Flyers this season, including several pitchers.

HOST FAMILIES

We are still seeking a couple of families to host a player during Spring Training, from May 28 - June 5. You will receive the same perk as if you hosted for the entire season, but we will only need your services for a little over a week. Should a player need hosting during the season between trips in or out of Fullerton (to/from other teams), we may call on you for a night, or two, as well.

If you are interested, contact Flyers GM Ed Hart at ehart@orangecountyflyers.com, or call him at 714-526-8326, x207.
