April 14, 2016 - World TeamTennis (WTT)
Washington Kastles News Release

The WTT season schedule for 2016 is now available and you won't want to miss your Kastles as they look to defend their 2015 title and claim their 6th straight and 7th overall World TeamTennis championship.

With some of the world's greatest players on the team this year and a star-studded line-up of opponents looking to knock off your hometown WTT Champions, it will be a season to remember.

"The lineup for the 2016 season is something very special," said Kastles owner Mark Ein. "I know our fans will love watching our newest teammates, Bob and Mike Bryan

and Mardy Fish, alongside our returning team, including Martina Hingis, Sam Querrey and Leander Paes, fight to keep the King Trophy in Washington against a lot of very tough teams this summer. It will be an unforgettable season with six incredible home matches starting with a star-studded opener on August 1 which promises to be one of the most exciting nights in our history."

The team will have six regular season home and six away matches over the course of the first two weeks of August.

The Kastles' season kicks off with an away match against the newest WTT team, the New York Empire, in their first match as a franchise at the historic West Side Tennis Club, the former home of the U.S. Open. There, the team will face rising star American Christina McHale, along with world No.47 Guido Pella, Maria Irigoyen and Oliver Marach. The team is coached by former U.S. Davis Cup Captain Patrick McEnroe.

The home schedule opens up with one of the biggest nights in franchise history on Monday, August 1 as the Bryan Brothers and Fish join their new Kastles teammates Hingis and Querrey as well as Anastasia Rodionova and Madison Brengle to face the Springfield Lasers. It is a star-filled Kastles Dream Team that will leave Coach Murphy Jensen with lots of roster options against a Springfield's squad that features doubles legend and current world No.13 Danial Nestor along with rising star and world No.39 Daria Gavrilova, Benjamin Becker and Michaella Krajicek.

The Bryans will be heading to Rio to join the United States Olympic team the very next day, so make sure you are part of the big Kastles send-off that night!!

On Tuesday, August 2, Kastles fans get the chance to watch Hingis and Querrey take on the talented New York squad Coach McEnroe will bring to D.C. in what is sure to rekindle the longtime heated rivalry between the Kastles and New York. This will be Hingis' last match before she travels to Rio and tries to win Olympic Gold in women's doubles and with Roger Federer in the mixed doubles competition.

The next night, Wednesday, August 3, brings a strong Philadelphia Freedom team - featuring one of the WTA tour's hottest young players, 18-year-old No.32 Daria Kasatkina, - to Washington to face Querrey, Fish, Brengle and Rodionova. The Kastles have stopped Billie Jean King team's quest for their own title year after year so you know they will come extremely motivated to get a win.

The Kastles then head out of town for a couple of matches on the West Coast against the Orange County Breakers and the San Diego Aviators on August 5 and 6, respectively. Orange County, formerly the Austin Aces, lost to the Kastles in the championship match last year. The team brings back rising star American and No.73 Nicole Gibbs along with Rodionova's former doubles partner Alla Kudryavsteva.

On Monday, August 8, the Kastles are back in D.C. in a rematch with the New York Empire before heading to NY the next night. On Wednesday, August 10 the Kastles return to the Smith Center to face the San Diego Aviators with young American Shelby Rogers and world No. 16 doubles star Raven Klaasen. After visiting Philadelphia and Springfield, the Kastles finish off the regular season against Gibbs and her Orange County teammates at home on Saturday, August 13 for USTA/Family Night which is always one of the most popular matches.

2016 season promises to be a memorable season and you certainly will want to be there to cheer on your Kastles!

Bryan Brothers Win

110th Title at Houston

The Bryans, two of the newest additions to the Kastle's roster, won the US Men's Clay Court Championship in Houston last week, making it the third tournament the Bryans have won at least six times (the other ones being the Australian Open and Los Angeles Open).

The Kastles members beat the team of Victor Estrella Burgos and Santiago Gonzalez in the final, coming back from a set down to win 4-6, 6-3, 10-8.

The Houston title was number 110 for the Bryan brothers and their first title this season. The brothers received 250 ATP rankings points for winning the trophy.

The Bryans have won 16 Grand Slam doubles titles, over 100 ATP tournament titles and the 2012 Olympic gold medal. The brothers have played WTT for 13 seasons and are joining the Kastles for the very first time this year.

Querrey also enjoyed a strong run in Houston, advancing to the doubles semifinals with partner Steve Johnson. The duo fell to the Bryan brothers in 7-6, 6-3 on the clay.

Querrey, who finished as the runner-up in 2010 and 2015, also had a strong showing in singles as the event's No.5 seed. He advanced to the quarterfinals before falling to Argentina's Juan Monaco 6-4, 6-4.

Martina Hingis Prepares for Fed Cup

Kastles veteran Hingis is gearing up to play for Switzerland in the Fed Cup semifinals against the Czech Republic on Saturday. Hingis is currently ranked No.1 in doubles with partner Sania Mirza and has been on a tear on the WTA Tour in recent months.

In Fed Cup, Hingis plays with teammates Timea Baczinsky, who is ranked No.17 in singles and No.235 in doubles, and Viktorija Golubic, who's ranked No.129 in singles and No.120 in doubles.

She started the year by claiming the Australian Open title in doubles as well as wins in Sydney and St. Petersburg and she enjoyed a 41-match winning streak that began at the US Open and ended just last month at the Qatar Open. She also had a huge number of wins in 2015, claiming doubles titles at the WTA Finals, the U.S. Open, Wimbledon, Beijing, Wuhan, Guangzhou, Charleston, Miami and Indian Wells.

In addition, Hingis teamed up with Kastles captain Leander Paes to win three Grand Slam mixed doubles events, including the Australian Open, Wimbledon and the U.S. Open. She's also set to compete for the Kastles before heading to the Olympics in Rio to represent Switzerland.
