Old Orchard Beach Raging Tide News Release

OLD ORCHARD BEACH, ME- The Old Orchard Beach Raging Tide saw their 2013 season come to an end, falling to the Martha's Vineyard Sharks, 5-1 at The Ballpark on Monday night. The Tide could never seem to get their bats going, being silenced to just four hits against John Cook (Winnetka, IL/Amherst), who tossed eight innings in the victory.

Martha's Vineyard took a 2-0 lead in the top of third, with Dylan Tice (Perkasie, PA/IUP) driving in two runs on a single that found the gap in left center. The home side would cut the lead in half however in the bottom half of the inning when Graham McIntire (Concord, NH/Marist) grounded out to second that plated in Fran Whitten (Westborough, MA/Maine) from third.

With one out and a runner on in the fourth, the Sharks added to their lead on an error by Phil Sciretta (Duxbury, MA/Virginia Tech) at first that brought in Davidson Pequero (Roslindale, MA/Fisher) from second.

Raging Tide's starting pitcher Enrique Sosa (Panama City, Panama/Miami) settled into a groove, retiring seven straight before giving up a double in the seventh that extended the Sharks lead. Martha's Vineyard would go around the order in the eighth, combining for three walks, a hit by pitch, and two big hits to add three to their advantage and pull the game out of reach, 7-1.

Two consecutive walks by Cook and a double by Aaron Wilson (Windsor, CT /Hartford) would score two for the home side to cut the deficit to 7-3 in the bottom of the eighth inning.

OOB tried to keep their season alive in the bottom of the ninth with a leadoff walk and a single to have two runners on, but the Sharks were able to get out of the jam and seal their ticket to the 2013 FCBL Championship.

Sosa suffered the loss, going six innings, yielding five hits, three unearned runs, and struck out four.

The Raging Tide conclude the 2013 campaign with a franchise-high 26 wins, in a season that saw the clubs first postseason berth and victory.
