MILWAUKEE (November 10, 2011) - The Milwaukee Mustangs begin the AFL's 25th anniversary season in 2012 on the road against the Arizona Rattlers on March 17. Milwaukee opens the home schedule at the Bradley Center on Thursday, March 29 versus the Pittsburgh Power.
"Our 2012 schedule is going to be challenging, but I am sure that our fans will be thrilled to see more weekend home games," said Mustangs' general manager Jason Clark. "I can't wait to hear our fans rocking the Bradley Center on Friday and Saturday nights this season. We are also excited that we will be featured nationally four times on the NFL Network."
Following an early bye the first week of the season, Milwaukee hits the road to take on the Arizona Rattlers and the New Orleans Voodoo. The Mustangs finished the 2011 season on a three-game winning streak that was sparked when the Mustangs defeated the Voodoo 76-55. Standout quarterback Gino Guidugli joined the 2011 Milwaukee roster late in the season and helped lead the Mustangs' offense. Milwaukee outscored its opponents 213-145 in the last three games of the season.
The Mustangs' schedule features all of the American Conference, East Division rivalry games that fans enjoyed last season, with home and away matchups against the Cleveland Gladiators, Pittsburgh Power and Philadelphia Soul.
Milwaukee will look to the support of Wisconsin fans when they greet their 2012 home opponents. The Mustangs host Pittsburgh, Utah, Cleveland, Georgia, San Jose, Philadelphia, Arizona, and rivals to the south, the Chicago Rush. Milwaukee ended last season on a high note, defeating the Rush, 54-41. The Milwaukee Mustangs' home schedule features one Thursday game, four Friday games, and three Saturday games. The Mustangs have byes in Week 1 and Week 5.
The Mustangs' road schedule takes the team to warmer weather destinations like Arizona, New Orleans, Tampa, Jacksonville, and Orlando. Milwaukee also travels to Spokane, Chicago, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Cleveland.
The NFL Network continues Arena Football Fridays and will showcase the Mustangs four times this season. Milwaukee's battle against division rivals the Cleveland Gladiators at home Week 10 and away Week 17, a Week 16 matchup at Arizona, and a Week 18 visit to Jacksonville, the defending Arena Bowl champions, will all be nationally televised on the NFL Network.
2012 Schedule Highlights
The Milwaukee Mustangs take on the Arena Bowl XXIV champion Jacksonville Sharks and their 2011 Arena Bowl opponent, the Arizona Rattlers. The Mustangs face off against both teams in games that will be televised on the NFL Network.
The Mustangs face a challenging schedule in 2012 - playing 10 of their 18 games against teams that made it to last season's playoffs.
Milwaukee will not compete against the Iowa Barnstormers. The Mustangs thumped Iowa 83-49 last season, and compiled a franchise record for most points in a game in the process.
The Milwaukee Mustangs are excited to host more Friday and Saturday night games and get national exposure by being featured four times on the NFL Network.
