2005 Eastern Conference All-Stars announced

Boise, ID (January 10, 2005) — The Continental Basketball Association announced today the ten players who have been selected as members of the 2005 Eastern Conference All-Star team. All-Star game participants were voted on by CBA head coaches and team beat writers. The Western Conference All-Star team will be announced on Tuesday, January 11.

Rockford Lightning Head Coach Chris Daleo, who was announced January 9 as the Eastern Conference team Head Coach, will lead a squad comprised of four Gary Steelheads players, three Great Lakes Storm players, two members from the Michigan Mayhem, and one from the Lightning. Daleo, and Dakota Wizards Head Coach Casey Owens, earned head coaching honors by leading their teams to the top quarter-point averages in their respective conferences in games played through January 8.

Gary Steelheads guard Jemeil Rich was a unanimous All-Star selection, receiving 15 of a possible 15 votes in the balloting process (coaches could not vote for their own players).

All-Star activities will begin on Tuesday, January 18, when the Eastern Conference team holds practice from 6 – 7 pm (CST), before the Western Conference team goes from 7 – 8 pm at the Genesis Convention Center. Both practices are open to the public. Then on Wednesday, January 19, the Eastern Conference All-Stars will hold a shoot-around from 10 – 11 am, followed by the Western Conference All-Stars from 11 am – 12 pm, again at the Genesis Convention Center. Shoot-arounds are not open to the public.

Later that night, game day festivities will begin at 6 pm with the CBA Long Distance Shootout, followed by the Slam Dunk Competition at 6:30 pm. Upon completion of the skills competitions, the 21st CBA All-Star Classic is scheduled to tip off at 7:30 pm. During the contest, members of the media and NBA scouts will make their selection for All-Star Most Valuable Player honors, to be announced after the game.

JACKIE BUTLER – C, 6-10, 250, Great Lakes Storm (Coastal Christian Academy HS ‘04): First All-Star selection...Currently ranks 5th in the league in rebounding (10.0 rpg) and 5th in blocked shots (1.5 bpg)...Posted a league-high 23 rebounds on January 2 against the Yakima Sun Kings...Averaging 16.3 points per contest 24 games played (all starts)...Was a fourth-round draft pick (28th overall) of the Sioux Falls Skyforce in the 2004 CBA Draft...Attended the NBA's Minnesota Timberwolves' 2004 training camp before being release on October 25... Named All-District in McComb, Mississippi, and was McComb High School's Most Valuable Player for four consecutive years, holding ten "All Tournament" titles...Named to the 2003 McDonald's High School All-American Team.

SHELLY CLARK – F, 6-9, 245, Gary Steelheads (Illinois '95): Second All-Star selection (2004)...Currently ranks 6th in rebounding (9.7 rpg)...Is averaging 15.0 points per contest in 21 games played (21 starts)...Was a fifth round draft pick (66th overall) of the Fort Wayne Fury in the 1995 CBA Draft...Holds a CBA averages of 12.6 points and 8.8 rebounds per game in 97 games played...Posted eight points and 13 rebounds in 32 minutes played in the 2004 CBA All-Star game...Averaged 11.8 points and 8.3 rebounds per game during his senior season at the University of Illinois.

CHARLES GAINES – F, 6-8, 230, Michigan Mayhem (Southern Mississippi '04): First All-Star selection...Currently leads the league in rebounding (11.7 rpg), and is 4th in field goal percentage (.588, 130 of 221)...Is averaging 15.8 points per game in 21 games played (seven started)...Was named to the All-Conference USA 3rd Team in 2003, and the 2nd team in 2004...Averaged 15.7 points and 10.1 rebounds per game for Southern Mississippi in 2003-04.

DAVID GRAVES – G, 6-6, 215, Gary Steelheads (Notre Dame '02): First All-Star selection...Currently ranks 14th in the league in scoring (16.8 ppg)...Is also averaging 4.4 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game in 21 games played (all started)...Is shooting 37.6 percent (35 of 93) from behind the three-point line...Averaged 14.9 points and 3.8 rebounds per game in 46 games played for the Steelheads during the 2003-04 season...Averaged 14.0 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game for Notre Dame as a senior in 2001-02...Was named Big East Conference Honorable Mention.

LONNIE JONES – C, 6-11, 240, Gary Steelheads (Ball State '02): First All-Star selection...Currently ranks 7th in the league in rebounding (9.3 rpg), and 5th in field-goal percentage (.562, 113 of 201)...Is averaging 12.7 points in 21 games played (18 started)...Was a third round draft pick (18th overall) of the Steelheads in the 2002 CBA Draft...Was a member of the 2002 New Jersey Nets training camp.

MARK JONES – G, 6-6, 215, Great Lakes Storm (Central Florida '98): First All-Star selection...Currently leads the league in scoring (22.5 ppg)...Is also averaging 5.5 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game in 25 games played (all starts)...Was a fourth round draft pick (35th overall) of the Fort Wayne Fury in the 1998 CBA Draft...Averaged 20.8 points and 7.3 rebounds per game for Central Florida to lead the conference in scoring during his senior season in 1997-98...Ranked 29th in the nation in scoring...Named co-winner of the TAAC Player of the Year award during the 1998-99 season.

MARSHALL PHILLIPS – G, 6-4, 200, Rockford Lightning (Appalachian State '99): First All-Star selection...Currently ranks 5th in the league in scoring (19.8 ppg), third in steals (2.6 spg), and 2nd in three-point field goal percentage (.465, 20 of 43)...Was a fifth round draft pick (41st pick) of the Fort Wayne Fury in the 1999 CBA Draft...Holds CBA career averages of 12.8 points and 4.7 rebounds per game in 130 games played...Posted 21.5 points and 9.0 rebounds per contest in five games played for the Lightning in the 2003 CBA Playoffs.
