
2003 playoff MVP signed by Colorado Avalanche

LAKE ST. LOUIS, MO--- The Colorado Avalanche of the National Hockey League (NHL) announced the signing of goaltender Tom Lawson on Tuesday. Lawson was the MVP of the 2003 Colonial Cup Playoffs while playing for the Fort Wayne Komets of the United Hockey League (UHL). He originally signed as a free agent with the Avalanche on June 3rd, 2003.
The Whitby, Ontario native made his professional debut during the 2000-01 season for the Knoxville Speed of the UHL. He appeared in 35 games for the Speed and compiled a record of 16-16-2.
Lawson spent the 2002-03 season with the Fort Wayne Komets. He had a record of 29-15-10, a .917 save percentage (SPCT), and a league-leading 2.00 goals against average (GAA). The netminder also notched seven shutouts, which was a league season record at the time. He was named as the UHL Best Goaltender for the 2002-03 season.
During the 2003 Colonial Cup Playoffs, Lawson was in net for all twelve Komets games, posting a record of 11-1, a .935 SPCT, a 1.68 GAA, and two shutouts. His performance led the Komets to their first Colonial Cup Championship and earned him 2003 Colonial Cup Playoff MVP honors.
