Albuquerque, N.M., December 7, 2007 - The Colorado 14ers downed the Albuquerque Thunderbirds 105 - 70 in a rematch of last year's Eastern Conference Semifinals. Elton Brown was one of six 14ers to score in double digits, leading all scorers with 18 points.
Colorado outpaced Albuquerque all night long, led by a strong performance from their bench as well as Julian Sensley's double - double, 15 points and 13 rebounds. Kaniel Dickens pitched in 13 points for the 14ers, Brandon Dean and Mo Charlo combined for 23 of Colorado's 41 bench points.
The Thunderbirds were led by Alando Tucker and Josh Gross who pitched in 17 points each in a losing effort. For Tucker the loss spoiled his first home game since being assigned to the Thunderbirds from the Phoenix Suns a week ago. Abdul Mills had a game high 7 assists for the Thunderbirds to go along with 5 rebounds and 8 points.
Albuquerque jumped out to an early 7 - 1 first quarter lead. Colorado climbed back into the lead though thanks to 9 points in the quarter from Brown as well as 10 Albuquerque turnovers. At the end of the first quarter the 14ers had a scant 21 - 18 lead.
Sensley led all second quarter scorers pitching in 10 of Colorado's 35 second quarter points. Colorado outpaced Albuquerque throughout the quarter, as their bench outscored Albuquerque's 13 to 3, stretching their lead at half time to 56 - 39.
Colorado shot just under 70 percent from the field in the third quarter helping their lead grow to 28 points after three quarters, 85 - 57. Albuquerque was able to cut the 14ers lead to 11 early in the quarter before Colorado went on a four minute 10 - 0 run to secure their lead.
Both teams get back to action tomorrow night, Saturday, December 8th at Tingley Coliseum. Saturday will be Press Pass night, show your Albuquerque Journal Press Pass and get a free general admission ticket with the purchase of any ticket, game time is set for 7:00 pm.
