13 Runs Unlucky for Aviators in 14-13 Loss
July 3, 2018 - Prospect League (Prospect)
Lafayette Aviators News Release
Both teams had a strong showing from the plate, but in the end the Springfield Sliders had a little more juice, winning 14-13.
Initially it seemed as if the Aviators were headed for another showing like the one they had the last time these two teams faced off, a game that Lafayette won 16-2. The home team jumped out to a 6-1 run lead after the first inning of this one. The Sliders followed it up with a six-run inning of their own, though, to retake the lead.
From there, it was a constant cycle of Lafayette battling to tie the game up just to see Springfield pull away again. Milo Beam and Donovan Clark both had solid games from the plate, racking up three hits each. Beam drove in three runs, while Clark batted in four.
The Aviators made up most of their four-run gap in the 9th, scoring three runs. They would not be able to finish the job, ending up just one run shy.
All in all, the team was done in by ineffective defense. The Aviators played a sloppy defensive game, netting seven errors to the Sliders' zero.
The next contest on the slate for Lafayette is an Independence Day matchup in Danville against the Dans. First pitch for that one is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
