13 NWSL Players Named to USWNT December Identification Camp

Chicago - U.S. Women's National Team head coach Vlatko Andonovski has named 13 National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) players to a 24-player roster for an Identification Camp from Dec. 9-14 in Bradenton, FL. Andonovski's second training camp since being named head coach on Oct. 28 will close out the year for the USWNT.

NWSL players on the December training camp roster are forwards Bethany Balcer (Reign FC), Ashley Hatch (Washington Spirit) and Paige Monaghan (Sky Blue FC), midfielders Danielle Colaprico (Chicago Red Stars), Venessa DiBernardo (Chicago Red Stars), Jordan DiBiasi (Washington Spirit), Sarah Killion (Sky Blue FC) and Kristie Mewis (Houston Dash), defenders Imani Dorsey (Sky Blue FC), Sarah Gorden (Chicago Red Stars) and Margaret Purce (Portland Thorns FC), and goalkeepers Jane Campbell (Houston Dash) and Casey Murphy (Reign FC).

The full roster includes 14 professional players and 10 collegiate players, including 17 uncapped players, six with three caps or less and Houston Dash midfielder Kristie Mewis, older sister of 2019 World Cup and NWSL champion midfielder Samantha Mewis, who earned 15 caps over 2013 and 2014. The roster does not feature any players from USA's 2019 World Cup team.

Four NWSL players are earning their first call-up to the senior National Team. Defenders Sarah Gorden, midfielder Jordan DiBiasi, and forwards Bethany Balcer and Paige Monaghan. Goalkeeper Casey Murphy, defender Imani Dorsey, and midfielders Sarah Killion and Venessa DiBernardo all have prior training camp experience with the USWNT but have yet to be capped. Defender Margaret Purce was called up for USA's November friendlies and received her first cap against Costa Rica on Nov. 10. Balcer, the 2019 NWSL Rookie of the Year, is the first player from an NAIA College (Spring Arbor University) to earn a WNT call-up. Houston Dash goalkeeper Jane Campbell, who has three WNT caps, is the youngest goalkeeper to be called into the senior National Team.

This event will allow Andonovski to evaluate younger players and other top NWSL players to expand and provide depth to the player pool for possible future call-ups to events in 2020. Due to the duration of camp, only currently domestic-based players were selected.
