Orange County Flyers News Release

After scoring just nine runs in a three game set with the Long Beach Armada, the Flyers bats were more than happy to return to the friendly confines of Goodwin Field. Unfortunately, the Chico Outlaws were ready and waiting for Fullerton - lighting up the scoreboard as well in a 16-11 Chico victory.

Flyers' leading hitter Sean Walsh continued to tear-up Golden Baseball League pitching, going 3-for-4, with six RBI; while Rich Pohle and Scooter Jordan each tallied three hits apiece. The top half of the Fullerton lineup (Jordan, Garry Templeton II, Pohle and Walsh) combined to go 11-for-18 with nine runs scored and nine RBI on the night.

Chico didn't waste any time getting acquainted in their first trip to Fullerton, putting five runs on the scoreboard in the top of the first.

The Flyers got back a couple in the bottom of the first when Jordan led off with a ground-rule double, followed by a Templeton single to bring Fullerton within 5-1. After a Pohle single moved Templeton to third, Walsh flied out to right-field - getting his first RBI of the night as Templeton tagged up and came home to score.

The Outlaws didn't seem phased by the Flyers attempted comeback and put two more runs on the scoreboard in the top of the second, regaining their five-run lead at 7-2. But this time the Flyers weren't just looking to take a bite out of the lead; they were looking to take the lead.

After a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the second made the score 7-3, Walsh cleared the bases with a double - bringing his RBI total to four on the night - and the score to 7-6 Chico. The one-run lead didn't last long however as Rick Elder followed Walsh at the plate and crushed a Seth Johnson pitch over the wall to put Fullerton in the lead 8-7 after just two innings.

The Chico offense was relentless though, putting up nine more runs between the fourth and eighth innings. The Flyers tried to keep up, pounding out fourteen hits on the night - including back to back homers by Pohle and Walsh, which brought the score to 12-10 Chico after the sixth, - but the Outlaws bats were just too strong Thursday night.

Walsh extended his team lead on the season with his sixth homer and took over the team lead with 28 RBI. Pohle follows close behind three homers and 24 RBI on the season.

The Flyers lock up with Chico once again at Goodwin Field Friday night at 7:05 p.m., as well as Saturday at the same time, and Sunday at 6:05 p.m.
