Vancouver Stealth News Release
Toronto, ON (Saturday) - The Vancouver Stealth (5-8) lost to the Toronto Rock (8-5) on Saturday night, 13-7.
It took six and a half minutes before the game found its first goal. Rhys Duch blasted a shot from about 35 feet out to beat goalie Nick Rose. It would take Duch 19 minutes and 58 seconds after that, to get the Stealth's second goal of the game. Meanwhile, the Rock went on a six-goal run before finishing the half leading 8-2.
"They had lots of energy and we were not able to match that and we looked tired and that's the way we played," said Head Coach Jamie Batley. "We should have been well-rested. We had eight days off, but we looked tired."
The energy and momentum seemed to have shifted at the beginning of the third. The Rock started the quarter off taking multiple penalties and the Stealth took advantage. While Kasey Beirnes and Lower Mainland product Challen Rogers were in the box for illegal cross checking, Corey Small and James Rahe scored back-to-back power play goals for Vancouver. Minutes later, Toronto answered back with two goals of their own to finish out the third.
Vancouver's Jordan Durston scored to open the fourth and put the Stealth within striking distance at 10-5. Vancouver would score two of the next three goals off the sticks of Justin Salt and another by Durston, but that was the end of the offense for Vancouver. Toronto scored two more goals late in the fourth to complete the home victory.
"When you are chasing a team by so many goals, it is hard to comeback," said Batley. "We had the ball enough to get 52 shots but we only had 7 goals. That is unacceptable. I think offensively we need to be better. It has been three or four games in a row now. Offensively we need our guys to score and we need that to happen on Friday."
The Stealth will be back inside the Langley Events Centre next week on Friday, March 31, 2017, hosting the Rock for the first time this season in the second half of their home-and-home. Friday night will be student night, where anyone with a valid student ID will get 40% off bowl seating. Tickets are available at the Langley Events Centre Box Office at 604-882-8800, or Ticket Rocket.co .
