Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release

DUBUQUE, Iowa - Dubuque Fighting Saints defenseman Jeff Baum has announced his commitment to play college hockey at Providence College. The native of Colleyvillle, Texas, is in his first season with the Saints after playing 81 games with the Wichita Falls Wildcats of the North American Hockey League.

Baum, an 11th-round selection in the 2016 USHL Phase II Draft by Dubuque, joined the team as a stalwart, puck-moving defenseman who notched 30 points a season ago in Wichita Falls. In his 19 games of service with the Fighting Saints, he has scored two goals and two assists.

"This feels awesome. It's a great opportunity for me, and it's something I've been working for my whole life," Baum said. "I'm just excited where I am now, and I'm really excited to keep moving forward with the season."

"Jeff has worked hard for this moment, and we're really excited for him and his commitment to joining the hockey family at Providence," said Fighting Saints head coach/GM Jason Lammers. "His talents and dedication, combined with his hard work, make a difference to the Fighting Saints and should help him be a difference maker at Providence."

Baum is slated to join a Providence program, led by head coach Nate Leaman, which recently won the NCAA Tournament in 2015. He will also join a team that features former Fighting Saints Kyle McKenzie, Shane Kavanagh and Spenser Young.

"The community there really stuck out. Everyone there was so welcoming, and so nice," Baum said of Providence. "I just loved everything about the campus, and all of the people there were so amazing."
