Westchester Knicks Snap Streak with Win over Long Island Nets

WHITE PLAINS, NY - The Westchester Knicks (17-26), the official NBA Development League affiliate of the New York Knickerbockers, snapped its losing streak with a 123-111 win over the Long Island Nets (15-29), the Brooklyn Nets' affiliate, at home tonight.

Following his 40-point performance against the Nets on Tuesday, John Jenkins led all scorers with 28 points tonight, adding five rebounds and four assists. Guard Kevin Capers saw his first double-double of the season, finishing with 14 points and 10 assists, also swiping three steals. Keith Wright continued his hot streak with another double-double of 15 points and 14 rebounds. Coming off an injury, forward Jaylen Bond gave a stellar performance from the bench, contributing 18 points, six rebounds, and three steals. Doron Lamb tied his season-high with 25 points to go with six rebounds and three assists, while Damien Inglis supplied 14 points, five rebounds, and four assists.

Trahson Burrell led the Nets from the pine with a team-high 23 points along with five assists and three steals. Cliff Alexander found a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds with three blocked shots, while Boris Dallo chipped in 17 points and eight rebounds, both players doing so from the bench. Forward J.J. Moore finished with 21 points; Tim Quarterman will a nice all-around game of 16 points, eight assists, and seven rebounds.

Westchester wasted no time transitioning back to its home floor after a challenging five-game road trip. The Knicks were in full control during the opening quarter of the contest, owning the first six baskets. At the 5:02 minute mark, the Knicks had extended its lead as high as 20 points. Westchester committed three turnovers within the final two minutes of the quarter, but its lead was never in question. The Knicks mounted its pressure in the second quarter of the game.

Rebounding was proving to be a pivotal difference; Keith Wright grabbing 11 boards through the opening two quarters.

Westchester challenged Long Island on every position, but the Nets managed to cut the deficit to seven before the half.

In the opening minutes of the third, John Jenkins nailed a shot from beyond the arc, helping the Knicks build on a surging start. That start quickly cooled down though, as Long Island amped up its defensive pressure. The Nets clawed its way back, eventually tying the game in the closing minute of the third. Westchester surrendered four points to its opponent after the tie, and fell behind for the first time all game. The Knicks had lost some of its magic, but it returned to top form when the moment mattered most. The first tie of the fourth quarter came at the 10:44 minute mark after Doron Lamb synced a three. Both teams battled back and forth, until Westchester found its breakthrough. Kevin Capers hit a clutch shot from deep, helping to stabilize a regained lead for the Knicks with five minutes to play. Westchester never trailed again after that moment, closing out the game with a 12-point lead. After its longest road trip of the season, the Knicks returned home and earned a commanding victory through a total commitment on all fronts.

The Westchester Knicks will travel to play the Erie BayHawks, the Orlando Magic's affiliate, next on Sunday, March 19 for a 2:00 p.m. matchup. The game will be broadcast on MSG Networks and streamed live on Facebook Live.
