
Vipers Complete Second Half Comeback to Strike Legends

HIDALGO, TX, (Feb. 14, 2017) - The Texas Legends (15-18) played their final game before the All-Star break in the Rio Grande Valley Tuesday night, but Cupid seemed to side with the Vipers (21-14), who returned from a 17-point deficit to take the game in the second half 141-133.
Texas got off to a hot start shooting 67% for 44 points in the first, led by Ben Gordon with 13. The Legends grabbed the first points in the second to take their largest lead of the night (+17) before the Vipers responded with eight straight. Texas continued fighting for their double-digit lead, but the Vipers chipped away at the gap until regaining the lead with seconds on the clock by a three-ball from JP Tokoto. The Legends responded with a long shot of their own and the two teams repeated the exchange before Manny Harris signed off with a dunk to give the Legends a four-point advantage at the break.
The teams exchanged threes again to start the third, but Kyle Wiltjer continued rolling, finishing the quarter with 23 points. The Vipers outscored Texas 39-20 to go up by 15 heading to the final quarter. The Legends pulled within six with a minute and a half to play, but the Vipers ran through six straight points to push the victory outside Texas' reach.
Gordon led the Legends with 29 points, hitting 6-of-9 from outside. CJ Williams finished with 21 points, 6 rebounds, and 7 assists. Jameel Warney came off the bench for 20 points while Harris joined him adding 18 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assists.
Wiltjer hit a game-high 7 threes to lead the Vipers with 29 points. Darius Morris added 26 points and dished out 14 assists and Chinanu Onuaku added a second double-double for the home team with 26 points, 12 rebounds.
