Tulsa Trounces Wings Once Again

Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings News Release

BOSSIER CITY, LA (July 12, 2010) - Coming into Saturday night's game against the Southwestern Divisional leading Tulsa Talons, the Bossier-Shreveport BattleWings were still in the post-season picture. Albeit, the picture was dim.at best.there was a slim, outside chance. That possibility went completely dark at about 9:30 PM on Saturday night in the BOK Center in Tulsa.

In front of a hostile crowd, the BattleWings were first to score with a 43-yard Field Goal from Nick Gatto, who was perfect on the night. QB, Jimmy Welker, returned to Tulsa for the first time since being released from the Talons after training camp earlier this year with high hopes of "showing his former boss what he was missing out on." During the first half of the game, it appeared as though Welker was well on his way to leading the Wings in what would have been the greatest win of the season for Bossier-Shreveport. At halftime, Welker had completed 15 of 21 passes with no Interceptions and had tallied 136 yards in the air. PJ Berry was Welker's favorite receiver during the first half with 8 catches for 73 yards and two TD's. Jason Schule and Kinsmon Lancaster also scored during the first half, Shule on the ground and Lancaster in the air. Combined with Gatto's FG, the Wings went to the locker room at the half only down by 3, with a score of 31-34.

Then, something changed for the BattleWings.

Scoreless in the 3rd, the BattleWings allowed 27 unanswered points. Justin Allgood hit Donovan Morgan and Carlese Franklin, each for a TD. Odie Armstrong barreled into the endzone for six points, and former BattleWing, Adam Huebner recovered a fumble, forced by a Gabe Nyenhuis sack, in the endzone for a defensive TD. 2 fumbles and 2 interceptions in the third quarter gave the Talons a huge boost, not only on the scoreboard, but in the mental game as well. The score at the end of the third quarter was 31-61, the Talons with a commanding lead.

The BattleWings actually outscored the Talons in the fourth quarter, 14-13. Tulsa backup QB, Michael Potts was brought in to allow Justin Allgood to remain healthy for their match against the Alabama Vipers in week 16. However, it wasn't enough for the Wings to leave Tulsa with the win. The BattleWings fell to 3-11 on the season while the Tulsa Talons improve their record to 8-5 and begin to look toward the playoffs, while the Wings take the bye week to heal injuries and "drop back and punt."

Final score at the BOK Center - 45-74.
