Lakeland ThunderBolts News Release

Going into Sunday night's game the defending league champions Canton Legends were 4-0 and had a 12 game winning streak. This came to an end with a last second 30 yard field goal off the toe of kicker Steve Kratz. "This was a great win over a top team" said head coach Teddy Keaton. "It was one of the most exciting games I have ever been involved in". Asked if he had second thoughts since Kratz had missed two earlier kicks, Keaton replied "It was a no lose situation. If he makes the kick we win if he doesn't we go into overtime". "The offensive line did a great job protecting our quarterback" said Defensive Coordinator Pat Dooley. "Canton prides it's self on their defense and ability to get to the quarterback. Our line was outstanding in keeping their defenders off Pogi"

This will be a short week for the Thunderbolts as they take on the Baltimore Blackbirds at 7:00 PM Friday night at the Lakeland Center. The 0-1 Blackbirds are coached by Chris Simpson. The Blackbirds lost to Redding in their opener. Quarterback Kenneth Irby went 14-3-1 for 57 yards.

Friday night's game is college night with any student, staff or faculty receiving $2.00 off a $10.00 ticket and above. A valid college ID is required. This week's game will feature a concert by Mark Anthony Roman sponsored by Cell City.

Tickets start at $ 7.00 and can be purchased by calling the Lakeland Center box office at 834-8111.
