Lakeland ThunderBolts News Release
The Lakeland Thunderbolts (3-1) take on the Florence, SC Phantoms (1-3) this Friday in Florence. The Thunderbolts are coming off a 69 - 14 victory over the Baltimore Blackbirds. Defensive lineman Jermaine Blakely had an outstanding game with three quarterback sacks, a forced fumble and he recovered another fumble for a touchdown. Blakely also played on the offense scoring on a full back screen. Fullback Elly Salamo scored four touchdowns during the game.
Florence lost to league leader Mississippi 68 -14. The Phantoms scored first on a 15 yard pass from Oscar Davenport to David Smith. The Mississippi defense then buckled down and held the Phantoms to one more touchdown.
This is the second meeting of these two teams. When they first faced off Lakeland was 0-1 and the Phantoms were 1-0. Presently Lakeland is 3-1 and Florence is 1-3. Lakeland beat the Phantoms in their opening home game. "This week we are working on execution to eliminate our mistakes" said Head Coach Teddy Keaton. "Having played Florence three weeks ago they know our offense and what we like to run". "Although we beat them 69-25 it is always hard to beat a team twice". Florence has had a change of direction when Head Coach Charlie Brown suddenly left the team midweek and was replaced by Coach Mike Siani. Coach Siani is the former head coach with the Fayetteville Guard in the NIFL. He led the team to the NIFL Championship last year. Siani played as a wide receiver for the Oakland Raiders under legendary Coach John Madden. "We lost to Coach Siani in the NIFL playoffs last year 43-18. He is an excellent coach who I know will have his team ready to play us" Keaton said.
The game will be broadcast on the AIFA sports network which can be accessed through the Thunderbolt website www.lakelandthunderbolts.com.
