Fresno Grizzlies News Release

A big day for the Fresno Grizzlies (10-14) bats wasn't enough in an 11-10 loss to the Reno Aces (14-10) Sunday afternoon at Greater Nevada Field. The clubs combined for 29 hits in the defeat for the Grizzlies.

Jack Mayfield (4-for-6) led off the first with a solo shot to left center. His first home run with Fresno this season was the first lead-off homer for the club in 2017. Jon Kemmer (2-for-6) reached on an Aces error and scored on a Derek Fisher (2-for-5) RBI double to give the Grizzlies a 2-0 lead. The Aces tied the game quickly in the bottom on the first with an Oswaldo Arcia (4-for-5) RBI double and a Jack Reinheimer RBI single to make the score, 2-2.

Kemmer knocked a three-run bomb to right in the fourth to give the Grizzlies a 5-2 lead. A.J. Reed (2-for-3) who singled and Reid Brignac who walked scored on Kemmer's second homer of the season in just as many games. With his five-hit game Saturday, he raised his average from .271 to .340 in just one night.

The Aces came right back with a nine-batter five-run fourth to take a 7-5 lead over the Grizzlies. Preston Tucker had other plans, crushing a two-run homer to right in the fifth. His third home run of the season tied the game 7-7. This marked the first time Fresno batters combined to hit three home runs in a game this season, previously having had seven games with two homers. The fifth continued with a RBI single from Mayfield and a two-RBI double from Kemmer to give the Grizzlies a 10-7 lead. No Fresno batter had recorded a five-RBI game prior to Kemmer on Sunday.

Reno got a run back in the sixth with a RBI single from Christian Walker (2-for-3) that scored Ketel Marte and a two-run triple from Arcia in the eighth would tie the score, 10-10. Ildemaro Vargas (2-for-6) knocked a RBI single in the ninth to score Reymond Fuentes for the walk-off victory. Eric Jokisch pitched four innings allowing nine runs (eight earned) on nine hits and four walks with three strikeouts, giving up three homers for the Aces, while Silvino Bracho (1-1) recorded the win with three strikeouts in the ninth.

In his 2017 Grizzlies debut, Mike Hauschild allowed two runs on three hits and a walk with two strikeouts in three innings. Aaron West (0-1) pitched an inning and a third allowing three runs on three hits and three walks for the loss.

The Grizzlies close out the five-game series in Reno on Monday at 6:35 p.m. Probable starters are RHP Edison Frias (1-2, 5.59) for Fresno and RHP Frank Duncan (1-3, 7.36) for the Aces.
