Wichita Stealth News Release
Hidalgo, Tex. - The Wichita Stealth came into Hidalgo, Texas tonight searching for a road win that has been eluding them since the last time they visited the Rio Grande Valley Dorados on May 8th. They got off to a great start but couldn't maintain the momentum that they had built up in the first half and gave up 28 consecutive points in the second half and fell to the Dorados 49-34 in front of 5,000 fans at Dodge Arena.
The last time the Stealth took on the Dorados they started the game with an eleven minute drive which yielded no points, tonight the Stealth wasted no time in getting on the scoreboard as it only took one play for Jonathan Beasley to find Marc Bacote for a 24-yard touchdown giving the Stealth the early 7-0 lead. The Stealth defense would follow up with a superb defensive stop forcing the Dorados to attempt a 61-yard field goal attempt, which was returned by Damon Thompson to the Rio Grande Valley 17-yard line. The Stealth would score on the second play of the ensuing drive on a 17-yard pass from Beasley to Thompson putting them up 14-0 with 9:19 left in the first.
The Dorados would get on the board at the 6:10 mark with a two-yard pass from Caleb Slover to Craig Cole ending the first quarter scoring with the Stealth ahead 14-7.
The Stealth defense would get another defensive stop to open the second quarter and the offense would take full advantage of the stop by taking the ball down the field on eight plays capping it off with a six yard pass from Beasley to Anthony Griffin giving the Stealth a 21-7 lead with 6:47 left in the first half.
The Dorados would score on their next possession on a 10-yard pass from Slover to Manwell Talbert making it a 21-14 Stealth lead. The Stealth would regain a fourteen-point lead on a 26-yard pass from Beasley to Brian Livingston capping off the first half scoring and giving the Stealth a 28-14 halftime lead.
Opening the second half the Dorados would score 28 consecutive points to take a 42-28 lead at the 13:11 mark of the fourth quarter. The Stealth would get their only score of the second half at the 1:44 mark of the fourth quarter on a one yard run by Brian Livingston making the score 42-34 after a failed extra point attempt by Dylan Pohlman. The Dorados would cap the game with a one-yard run by quarterback Abel Gonzalez, who came in at the start of the second half for Caleb Slover, making the final score 49-34.
