Portland Forest Dragons News Release

DURHAM, N.C. – Quebec second baseman Patrick Scalabrini was named Daktronics Northern League East Rookie of the Year on Wednesday and Adirondack left-hander Danny Miller was selected the division's top rookie pitcher.

The East Division managers and one media representative from each East city voted.

With less than a week to play in the regular season, Scalabrini ranked third in the East Division in batting average (.336) and fourth in on-base percentage (.400). He has 24 doubles, seven homers, 43 runs batted in, 25 walks and 28 strikeouts. He has stolen 17 bases in 23 attempts and committed 12 errors as the everyday Quebec second baseman.

Scalabrini, 25, is a Quebec native who attended the University of Hawaii. By Northern League player classification rules, he qualifies as a rookie because his only other year of professional baseball was in the Northern League. He hit .271 with five homers in 71 games last year for Les Capitales.

The Lumberjacks' Miller won the Daktronics Northern League East Rookie Pitcher of the Year award Wednesday.

Miller has posted an 8-5 record, one save, 46 walks, 78 strikeouts and a 3.51 earned run average in 95 innings. He has alternated between starting and relieving while winning his last five decisions. He has 13 relief appearances and 12 starts. His last two outings have resulted in two complete games and one shutout.

Miller, 22, was born in Baltimore, Md., and lives in Millersville, Md. He attended Brewton-Parker (Ga.) College and signed with the Lumberjacks this spring for his first year of professional baseball.

Daktronics is a nationally known manufacturer of electronic scoring and informational display equipment including LED video replay boards. The Brookings, S.D., company can be reached at daktronics.com.
