
Rogers Delivers Game-Winning Home Run on Monday

The SeaWolves notched their first home series win of 2018 as they walked off on the Reading Fightin Phils, 4-3, on Monday night at UPMC Park.
Reading jumped ahead in the top of the first inning against SeaWolves starter Kyle Funkhouser. Jan Hernandez walked with one out and stole second. Damek Tomscha followed with an infield single and on a Will Maddox throwing error, Hernandez scored for a 1-0 lead.
The Fightin Phils extended the lead in the top of the third. Brandon Bednar led off with a single and he moved into scoring position on a Malquin Canelo base hit. Hernandez singled home Bednar for a 2-0 lead. Tomscha followed with a sacrifice fly, scoring Canelo for a 3-0 lead.
The SeaWolves cut into the Reading lead in the last of the third against starter Elniery Garcia. Danny Woodrow doubled down the left field line and scored on a Sergio Alcantara base hit to make it 3-1.
Erie then made it a one-run game in the last of the fourth. Gabriel Quintana reached on a two-base throwing error with two outs. He moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a Dominic Ficociello base hit making it 3-2.
The SeaWolves tied the game in the sixth when Ficociello blasted a one-out, solo home run to right.
The game remained tied into the bottom of the ninth inning. Reading reliever Tyler Visa worked a scoreless eighth and came out to work the ninth. Jake Rogers led off the inning and blasted an opposite-field, solo home run, giving the 'Wolves the walk-off victory. It was the second time in four games that the SeaWolves walked off on Reading.
Zac Houston (1-1) earned his first Double-A win tossing a 1-2-3 top of the ninth inning with a pair of strikeouts.
Visa (0-3) took the loss allowing a run on two hits with a walk and a strikeout in 0.2 innings.
Funkhouser took the no-decision for Erie allowing three runs two earned, on six hits with two walks and two strikeouts in a season-high seven innings of work.
