Rome Renegades News Release
The Rome Renegades struck paydirt on the first play of the third quarter and never looked back in a 64-39 AIFL play-off win over the Chattahoochee Valley Vipers Monday night. The Renegades now prepare for the Southern Division championship tilt with the Raleigh Rebels Monday night June 26th at 7:00 in the Forum in Rome.
The game started on a positive note as record setting kicker Danny Marshall nailed the ball through the Alley uprights on the kick off giving Rome a 1-0 lead before most of the fans had gotten into their seats. Rome moved in front 9-0, but the Vipers fought back to take their only lead at 21-20 in the second quarter. Rome got a big turnover right at the end of the half leading to a touchdown and a 27-25 halftime margin. Renegade QB Bo Bartik hooked up with Andrew Amerson for a 30 yard TD on the first play of the second half to start a 23-0 run that put the game out of reach.
Quarterback Bo Bartick had his best game since taking the helm of the Renegade offense after Southern Division All Star quarterback Marcus Brady made the Montreal Alouettes roster in the Canadian Football League. Bartick was 17-25 with two touchdowns. Jermaine Collins and Leon Moore led an aggressive Rome defense that held Viper QVB Joey Conrad and wide receiver Garvin Graves in check.
The Renegades will meet the Raleigh Rebels in Rome next Monday night for the Southern Division title with the winner of that game meeting the winner of the June 22 northern Division championship between the Canton Legends and the Reading Express.
