Portland Forest Dragons News Release
DURHAM, N.C. â The affiliation agreement that brought the Northern League Central and Northern League East together for the past four seasons will not be renewed, Central Division commissioner Mike Stone announced Thursday.
The 10 teams in the midwest will operate as the Northern League in 2003 under Stone's guidance. The East Division is expected to announce its plans next week.
"With the addition of a new stadium in Kansas City, Kan., and Gary, Ind., the Northern League will turn its attention to the midwest," Stone said. "We're looking forward to continuing to bring a great brand of professional baseball to our fans."
"We've enjoyed the competition of the all-star game and league championship series the last four years," East Division commissioner Miles Wolff said. "With a new facility in Brockton and a new team in Lynn, Mass., the east owners are glad to start fresh on our own."
The Northern League operations have been relocated to Fort Worth, Texas. The east teams will continue to be run out of the Durham, N.C., office.
