
Mammoths Stampede Over Steelhawks

PORTLAND - The Maine Mammoths (2-7) took on the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks (0-8) for the second time this season. This victory is the Mammoths' first victory in front of their home crowd and second win overall in the 2018 season. Their first victory was against the Steelhawks in Week Three with a 45-24 score.
Quarterback Jonathan Bane returned to the Mammoths after suffering a minor injury. During the course of the game, he was 15-of-22 for 218 yards, five touchdowns, and one interception on the night. His top receiver was Devin Wilson, totaling eight receptions for 142 yards and five touchdowns. Wide Receiver Robert Brown Jr. made five receptions for 63 yards. On the defensive side for Brown Jr., he recovered a fumble and returned it all the way inside the five yard line, setting the Maine offense up to score. On special teams, he returned the opening kickoff 44 yards. Edgar Poe Jr. made one catch for 20 yards. On the rushing game, Desmond Maxwell had two rushes for three yards and one touchdown. Jackson Dallas rushed one time for two yards and one touchdown. Kicker Henry Nell was 7-of-7 on PAT's, 0-for-1 on FG's, and successfully made two deuces.
The momentum instantly went the Mammoths way, as Robert Brown Jr. returned the opening kickoff for 44 yards all the way to the Lehigh Valley six yard line about to score. Two plays later, Wide Receiver caught an eight yard touchdown. The Steelhawks fired back after a nine yard touchdown pass from Quarterback Caleb Walton to Seth Higgins. The Mammoths couldn't get anything else going the next drive, but forced the Steelhawks to fumble in their own end zone and gave the Mammoths a free two points to give them a 9-7 lead. To start the second quarter, the Steelhawks kicked a With just over 11 minutes until halftime, Bane threw a 30 yard deep-ball to a wide-open Devin Wilson for a touchdown, extending the Mammoths victory to a 16-10 score. A pair of touchdowns from Wilson and Fullback Desmond Maxwell makes the score 30-10. A Steelhawks touchdown late in the first half makes the score 30-16 to put the game into halftime.
The Steelhawks wasted no time starting the second half, scoring a touchdown within the first four minutes of the quarter. The Mammoths did just the same thing, as Wilson reeled in his second touchdown that went for 30 yards. Touchdowns from Wilson, Maxwell, and Jackson Dallas made the game 60-30. The first deuce of the game was by Mammoths Kicker Henry Nell to make the score 62-30 as Maine doubled the Lehigh Valley score. After a Bane interception, Steelhawks Quarterback Caleb Walton threw a 30 yard touchdown pass to Yuseff Reddick. From there, the Mammoths wound the clock down and finished the game with a 62-36 final score to move to 2-7 on the season.
The next Mammoths game is against the Jacksonville Sharks on Saturday, June 23, 2018 at 7:00 pm (E.T.) for Teacher/Superhero Appreciation Night.
