Ohio Valley Greyhounds News Release
The Ohio Valley Greyhounds of the United Indoor Football League (UIF) are today announcing their home and away game schedule for the upcoming 2007 season. All home games will be played at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling, WV.
The Greyhounds 9th season begins Saturday March 24, 2007 with a Home Opener game with the Lexington Horsemen in WesBanco Arena in Wheeling. Kickoff times for all of the Greyhound home games this year will be a half hour earlier at 7:00 pm.
"The United Indoor Football League (UIF) is very excited about the ownership team that is in place with the Ohio Valley Greyhounds" said Dakota Crow, UIF League Commissioner. "Lou Stein and his staff now have a year of operations under their belt and have exciting things planned for 2007 both on and off the field. The Greyhounds have been a staple in indoor football for many years. We are very proud to call the Greyhounds a member of the UIF and a true cornerstone of our league", added Crow.
The new 2007 Greyhounds schedule being released today is a 17-week regular season schedule, which includes two bye weeks for each team in the league. The 17 week schedule begins March 24th and runs through July 14, 2006. The UIF play-offs and Conference Championships will then take place the remainder of July with the United Indoor Bowl taking place in early August.
The "Hounds" schedule will include games with traditional rivalries including Lexington, Evansville, Rockford, Bloomington, and Sioux Falls and a couple of new, soon-to-be rivalries with the St. Louis River City Rage, a new team in the UIF this year and the Omaha Beef who will visit WesBanco Arena for the first time.
There are three (3) new teams joining the UIF in 2007; the Billings Outlaws, from Billings Montana, the River City Rage from St. Louis, Missouri, and the Colorado Ice from Fort Collins, Colorado. Billings and River City were previously competing in the National Indoor Football League (NIFL) and the Colorado Ice is a new expansion team this year ready for their inaugural season in the UIF. Hounds fans may remember that the Greyhounds defeated the Billings Outlaws for the National Championship in 2002. Two teams, the Peoria Rough Riders and the Fort Wayne Freedom will not be playing in the UIF this season.
The United Indoor Football League is divided into two conferences; the East and the West. The Eastern Conference consists of the River City Rage, the Evansville BlueCats, the Lexington Horsemen, the Bloomington Extreme, the Ohio Valley Greyhounds, and the Rock River Raptors. The Western Conference includes the Billings Outlaws, the Sioux Falls Storm, the Colorado Ice, the Sioux City Bandits, and the Omaha Beef.
"The Greyhound organization is pleased with this years schedule in that we alternate home and away games fairly regularly so our team does not have any long stretches where the team is either home or away for an extended period", explained Stein. We do have a 3 game road schedule in June but it is followed by back to back home games in early July. "This type of scheduling works out much better for the coaches, players, their families, and the fans".
Season tickets are going on sale on December 16th to 2006 season ticket holders. Those 2006 season ticket holders have until January 20, 2007 to renew their tickets for the 2007 season. After January 20, 2007 any 2006 season ticket seats that have either not been renewed or have not had a deposit put down on them will be released to new season ticket purchasers.
"Our entire Greyhound staff is committed to making the Ohio Valley Greyhound experience the best sports and entertainment value in the entire region. We are working closely with Denny Magruder, Doug Campbell, and the great staff at Wesbanco Arena to plan a season's worth of exciting home game events for our fans. I am also very pleased to announce that there will be no increase in either season ticket prices or single games ticket prices in 2006", continued Stein. We have worked with WesBanco Arena to eliminate a level of ticket pricing which will make ticket selection easier for the Arena and the fans. Greyhound tickets provide families and fans with a great entertainment value. In addition, I will be making several announcements regarding new events and entertainment surrounding the home games in the coming weeks. Our entire staff is expecting a great year in 2007, continued Stein.
