GARY, Ind. - After Thursday's series opener was suspended due to rain in the bottom of the fourth, Winnipeg and Gary resumed the game on Friday, with the RailCats falling to the Goldeyes, 9-4. Gary never led in the game and has now lost four of their last five games to the reigning champions.

Winnipeg (41-29) took the opening lead of the series with a pair of two-out runs in the top of the first. Former RailCat Josh Romanski started the inning with a two-out walk before Reggie Abercrombie advanced Romanski to third with a single to center, however, Abercrombie was able to move up to second on the throw to third. Shawn Pleffner made it 2-0 in favor of the reigning champions with a two-run single to center, plating both Romanski and Abercrombie.

Gary (39-31) tied the game with two runs in the fourth. Cameron Newell drew a one-out walk before Randy Santiesteban gave the RailCats their first hit of the game with a double down the left field line. With runners on second and third, Frank Martinez deadlocked the game at 2-2 with a two-run double off the base of the left-center wall.

The Goldeyes quickly regained the lead with two runs in the fifth on the second two-run hit of the game from Pleffner. Andrew Sohn singled to start the first full half inning following Thursday's game getting suspended in the bottom of the fourth. David Rohm moved Sohn up to second with a groundout to first before Romanski drew his second walk. Sohn and Romanski then executed the double steal before Abercrombie drew the second walk of the inning to load the bases. Pleffner gave Winnipeg their second lead with a two-run single through the right side, scoring both Sohn and Rohn.

The RailCats cut the deficit to one with a two-out run in the seventh. Chase Harris reached on a two-out single to center before Kris Goodman brought him around to score with an RBI single to left-center field wall.

Winnipeg took their biggest lead of the night with four runs in the top of the eighth. All-Star Wes Darvill made it 6-3 with a two-run homer to right before Mason Katz followed with a solo home run of his own. Romanski extended the Goldeyes lead to five with on Romanski's two-out RBI single.

Gary added their final run in the bottom of the eighth, cutting the Goldeyes lead back down to four. Santietsteban tripled to right-center before Martinez brought him in with an RBI groundout for his third RBI of the game.

The Goldeyes capped off the scoring with an unearned run in the ninth. With the bases loaded, Katz reached on a 6-2 fielder's choice, however, the throw from Jose Gonzalez on the double play attempt sailed into right field allowing Bergin to score from second for the final run of the night.

Kenny Matthews (3-1) recorded the win with 2.1 scoreless innings of relief. The southpaw yielded two hits and two walks and struck out two.

Andy Roberts (0-1) was tagged with the loss in his season debut. Roberts allowed two runs on two hits and two walks in one inning out of the bullpen.

Gary and Winnipeg continue their four-game series with a seven-inning contest starting approximately 30 minutes after the completion of Thursday's suspended game. RailCats southpaw Jeff McKenzie (0-2, 4.50) opposes Goldeyes left-hander Zack Dodson (5-3, 5.09) later today.
