RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CA - Rancho Cucamonga pitchers collected 17 strikeouts while the Quakes blasted three more home runs on Sunday afternoon in a 6-2 victory over the Giants at LoanMart Field. Rancho Cucamonga finished the series with eight homers en route to taking three out of four games from San Jose (35-39 overall, 1-3 second half) to open the second half.

Jacob Heyward (2-for-4, HR, 2 RBI) hit a two-run home run to lead the Giants offensively in defeat.

Logan Webb dazzled on the mound in his start for San Jose tossing four scoreless innings with a career-high seven strikeouts. Webb allowed two hits, walked one and retired 11 out of the 14 batters he faced.

Sunday's contest was scoreless until the Quakes broke through against Giants reliever Sandro Cabrera in the bottom of the sixth. With two outs and the bases empty, Cody Thomas stepped to the plate and launched a towering home run to right for a 1-0 Rancho Cucamonga advantage. The homer was Thomas' fourth of the series.

The Quakes then pushed their lead to 3-0 an inning later on another home run. With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Jared Walker singled before Hamlet Marte connected for a two-run homer to straightaway center.

San Jose answered with a home run of their own in the top of the eighth as Heath Quinn singled with one out before Heyward crushed a fly ball over the fence in deep left center. The home run was Heyward's fifth of the season and it brought the Giants back to within 3-2.

Rancho Cucamonga though responded with three runs in the bottom of the eighth against Cabrera to take control of the game. Rylan Bannan led off with the Quakes' third homer of the day - a solo shot to right center - to make it 4-2. Thomas followed with a double to deep right center before Omar Estevez delivered a one-out RBI double down the left field line to stretch the Rancho Cucamonga lead to 5-2. Then with two outs, Marte picked-up his third RBI of the game as his single brought home Estevez for a 6-2 margin.

Quakes reliever Marshall Kasowski then struck out the side in a 1-2-3 top of the ninth to seal the Quakes victory.

Andre Scrubb (1-0) picked-up the win out of the Rancho Cucamonga bullpen after working two scoreless innings in the sixth and seventh with one hit allowed and three strikeouts. Quakes starter Tony Gonsolin, a California League All-Star, struck out nine over five shutout innings to begin the game. Gonsolin worked around four singles and two walks during his stint on the mound. San Jose left a runner in scoring position in the second, third, fifth and sixth innings. The Rancho Cucamonga bullpen combined to strikeout eight Giants hitters over the final four innings.

Cabrera (6-3) was tagged for six runs (all earned) on eight hits over four innings of long relief to take the loss. He walked two and struck out three.
