KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- Brandon Sumner threw for 222 yards and five touchdowns and rushed for two more as the Osceola Ghostriders defeated the Daytona Beach Thunder 57-31in a World Indoor Football League game before 1,142 Sunday afternoon at IOA Insurance Field at Silver Spurs Arena.

The former UCF and Daytona Beach Mainland star, connected with four different receivers for touchdowns as the Ghostriders (2-1) point the highest point total so far in the WIFL's inaugural season.

Daytona Beach (0-3) took a 7-0 lead on Bo Bartik's one-yard keeper on the game's opening possession, but the Ghostrider defense would intercept Bartik three times in the first half -- twice by Turmarian Moreland -- as Osceola opened up a 28-14 halftime lead. The Thunder never got closer than 11 points in the second half.

James Panui caught five passes for 97 yards and two scores for Osceola, while Lamont Finnie (3-58), Luther Huggins (2-48) and Darnelius Jones (1-19) each posted one touchdown catch. Terrance Bunting rushed for 24 yards and one score.

Sumner was named the game's offensive MVP, while Moreland garnered his second defensive game MVP award of the season. Myquall Spann was named line MVP, while Finnie (189 return yards) took special teams MVP honors. The Ghostriders earned 234 "style points" from a commitee of six media members, while the Thunder was awarded 87.

This was the Thunder's first game since the death of defensive back Javan Camon Feb. 26. Bartik was 10 of 26 for 168 yards with three touchdowns -- two to Cory McKinney (3-78) and one to Clinton Crump (4-44).

The WIFL returns to action March 24 in Augusta, Ga. with the Spartans making their 2007 home debut against the Columbus Lions.
