Bridgeport Bluefish News Release

Bridgeport, CT - The Bridgeport Bluefish defeated the Stratford Brakettes 3-1 Sunday Night at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard. The 'Fish have now taken all three of the Battle of the Sexes softball games played in the Park City, winning last year 7-3 and walking off 2-1 to take the inaugural matchup.

The Brakettes got things started on the scoreboard as Emily Lochten went yard in the top of the second inning to put the visitors up 1-0. Bridgeport responded with a run of their own in the home half of the third, as catcher Anthony Aresco hit a high fly ball over the centerfield wall to knot the game at one. The ballgame developed into a pitcher's duel as the contest moved on, with winning pitcher Nick French striking out 14 Brakettes batters for the 'Fish, and Megan Good entering the game in the bottom of the fifth in relief of Stratford Starting Pitcher Tatum Buckley and amassing nine strikeouts in five innings out of the bullpen. It was Rossmel Perez who broke the tie in the bottom of the eighth inning, plating Matt Iannazzo and Sam Gervacio with a two-run single to right field, giving the game its final score of 3-1. Aresco led the offensive efforts for the Bluefish with a pair of base knocks. Lochten's four hits led the way offensively for the Brakettes. Photo provided courtesy of Dave Csordas.

The Bluefish continue a six game homestand on Monday, July 25th, when they welcome the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs to The Ballpark at Harbor Yard for a three game series. First pitch is scheduled for 7:12 P.M. It will be Police Appreciation Night at the ballpark, where police officers can show their badge and receive two tickets to the game. A pin giveaway will also take place, as the first 500 fans in attendance will receive a 2016 Collector's Pin. CLICK HERE for tickets.
