Florida Fire Frogs News Release
KISSIMMEE, Fla. - Braxton Davidson picked up his first career multi-career home run game, and Jeremy Walker tossed the first complete game of the season for the Florida Fire Frogs, as the home team walked away with a doubleheader split against the Jupiter Hammerheads with a 9-3 win and a 2-1 loss at Osceola County Stadium on Saturday.
Game One: Florida - 9, Jupiter - 3
Florida (25-33) jumped all over Josh Roeder (1-1) for a four-run first to start Saturday. Garrison Schwartz (2x3, R, BB) singled with one out and moved up to second on Brett Cumberland's (1x4) single to right. Kurt Hoekstra (0x4, R) bounced into a fielder's choice to put runners on the corners for Jared James (2x4, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI) who deposited an RBI double down the line in right top push across Schwartz. Braxton Davidson (3x3, 3 R, 2 HR, 4 RBI) crushed a 3-1 fastball over the wall in right-center to cap off the opening frame.
The advantage was more then enough room for Kyle Muller (1-1) to work with, as the southpaw picked up his first win as a Fire Frog with two runs allowed on seven hits and two strikeouts.
Jupiter's (37-24) runs against the game-one starter came on a sacrifice fly to right by Roy Morales in the fourth, and an RBI groundout by Braxtno Lee in the fifth.
The Fire Frogs padded onto their lead with another four-run frame coming in the third. James left the yard against Roeder for his second home run in his last three games with one out in the inning to create a five-run cushion.
Jordan Rodgers' (2x3, RBI) infield single with the bases loaded plated Davidson for the team's sixth run of the day, and Cristian Pache's (0x4, RBI) run-scoring fielder's choice brought home Ray-Patrick Didder (1x3, R). An errant throw from Joe Dunand allowed Alejandro Salazar (1x3, R) to score the second run on the play.
Jon Kennedy tossed the final two innings, allowing a run on a double play off the bat of Lee in the seventh for the Hammerheads' final run in the opener.
Game Two: Florida - 1, Jupiter - 2
Jeremy Walker (1-6) gave up an infield single to Aaron Knapp, and followed that with a two-run, opposite-field home run to Justin Twine to put the Fire Frogs in a 2-0 deficit. The right-hander calmed down after the long ball, allowing just two base runners through his final six innings of work.
The Gardner-Webb product went the distance in the loss, allowing the two runs on four hits and three strikeouts in his fifth quality start of the season.
Davidson (1x3, 2B, RBI) pushed across the only run of the game for Florida in the night cap with a double to center, bringing home Schwartz.
Dylan Lee (6-1) earned the win out of the bullpen for the visitors with two scoreless frames. Lukas Chiraldi put the go-ahead run on base in the seventh, but struck out pinch-hitter James to leave two runners on in the final inning.
Florida takes aim at the series victory in the rubber match on Sunday morning at Osceola County Stadium. RHP Connor Johnstone (1-2, 2.60) takes the mound for the Fire Frogs in the series finale, while it has yet to be determined who will toe the rubber for the Hammerheads.
