Western New York Flash News Release

BUFFALO, NY (Aug. 2, 2011) - Canadian forwardChristine Sinclair played a role in three goals as the Western New York Flash claimed four points in two games during week 15 to retake the top spot in the Women's Professional Soccer standings -- short-term, at least -- and her performance has been rewarded with WPS's Player of the Week honor.

The two-time WPS all-star forward scored twice and assisted a third goal as the Flash (8-2-3) defeated magicJack, 3-1, in a midweek clash last week, then provided ample support the as the expansion club rallied twice for a 2-2 draw in Boston last weekend.

Recognized as one of women's soccer's most prolific goal scorers, Sinclair is tied with Philadelphia's Tasha Kai amongst league leaders in goals scored having notched eight goals apiece as of last week. Sinclair has achieved this in just 10 appearances so far in 2011.

On the international level, Sinclair has represented Canada in the women's national team since the age of 16 and has since become her country's all-time leading female goal scorer with 117 international goals. Sinclair captained the Canadian Women's Soccer team at the recent 2011 Women's World Cup, and notably scored her team's only goal in group play, putting away a perfectly placed free kick against host country Germany in the tournament's opening day.

Sinclair spent her first two seasons in WPS with FC Gold Pride, where she helped the San Francisco Bay Area based team to the WPS Championship in 2010. She is a graduate of the University of Portland where she was twice named the MAC Hermann Trophy winner (2004, 2005) as the nation's top women's collegiate soccer player. This marks the fourth POW honor for Sinclair, who won once each in 2009 and 2010 while with FC Gold Pride and in Week 4 this season with the Flash. Current teammates Marta, Caroline Seger and McCall Zerboni also have been honored this season. Sinclair is the third player this season in WPS to earn multiple Player of the Week honors.

The WPS Player of Week is selected by a panel of journalists from the North American Soccer Reporters.
