Grand Rapids Drive News Release
OSHKOSH - The Grand Rapids Drive (19-18) allowed just 36 second-half points in their 102-78 win over the Wisconsin Herd (17-19) on the road Friday night. It marks the fifth straight win for Grand Rapids. The Drive scored just 11 points in the first quarter, a new season low, but they did not have much trouble scoring after that and held the Herd to under 20 points in each of the following three quarters to run away with the win.
KJ McDaniels led all players in scoring despite coming off the bench, scoring 23 points for the visitors. Bronson Koenig had 17 points also off the bench and Kay Felder finished with 17 points as well for Grand Rapids. Speedy Smith had a game-high eight assists to go with 11 points as yet another reserve that made an impact for the Drive.
For the Herd, James Blackmon Jr. led the way with 18 points, D.J. Wilson piled up a game-high 15 rebounds and Michael Dunigan chipped in 13 points off the bench.
The Drive scored 41 points in the second quarter after their 11-point first quarter output, quickly erasing their 15-point hole the Herd put them in during the first 12 minutes. The 25-point advantage in the second quarter gave the Drive a 10-point halftime lead that they did not surrender for the remainder of the game.
Grand Rapids did not shoot the ball particularly well (42 percent from the floor and 29 percent from three), but they limited the Herd to slightly worse percentages, made all but one of their 17 free throw attempts, turned the ball over just 13 times and out-rebounded Wisconsin by a 50-40 margin as well.
The Drive will look to stay hot as they return to the DeltaPlex for their first ever meeting with the Memphis Hustle on Sunday. The Herd's next game will be hosting Long Island Saturday.
