New Orleans VooDoo News Release

The New Orleans VooDoo have signed DL Lauvale Sape on a one-year contract, it was announced by the club today.

"We are excited to be able to have Lauvale join our team as we prepare for the upcoming season." said VooDoo head coach Mike Neu. "He is a big, physical player who has the power and agility to play multiple positions on the defensive line. Players with that kind of skill set are invaluable in this league and have traditionally made a smooth transition to playing the indoor game."

Sape (6-1, 296, Utah) was originally a sixth round draft pick of the Buffalo Bills in 2003. During his three-year tenure in Buffalo, he appeared in 11 games and notched eight tackles (five solo) and a fumble recovery. He most recently signed with the Oakland Raiders in the 2007 offseason and went to training camp with the Tennessee Titans. Sape, a native of America Samoa, was a two-year starter at nose guard for Utah and finished his career with 88 tackles (41 solo), six sacks and 19 stops for losses. He was an All-Mountain West Conference second-team selection in 2002, starting every game and making 23 tackles (11 solo) with a sack, four stops for losses and three passes defensed.

Sape joins a five-player free agent class for the VooDoo that also includes WR Derrick Lewis, DB Lin-J Shell, C Adam Metts and WR Sale' Key.
